Marker Bills get defensive in taming Lions [7:55 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: '“We’re a solid team, but we have to continue to improve. By no means are we one of the best teams in the National Football League right now.”'

Marker Confident Harrington kept poise despite Lions’ struggles [7:53 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: '“They played better than us,” Harrington said. “I can’t give you an exact answer, I only know what I feel, and I feel like we couldn’t move the ball. I feel like we were on the verge of clicking. But it didn’t happen. It just didn’t click.”'

Marker Centers’ streak ends at 143 games [7:51 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: '“It just didn’t happen for me to catch the ball, but the good news is we came away with a win.”'

Marker Bills place Robertson on reserve list [7:39 PM]
AP reports: 'The Buffalo Bills placed defensive tackle Tyrone Robertson on the reserve/non-football illness list Monday after he completed a four-game NFL suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.'

Marker No bucking this trend - Answers not forthcoming [5:55 PM]
Boston Globe reports: This morning the Patriots are two games out of first place in the AFC East and a game and a half behind the second-place Buffalo Bills. The Bills are 5-3 because Belichick gave aid and comfort to the enemy when he turned Drew Bledsoe over to them. Bledsoe has now thrown for more than 300 yards in half the games he's played this season and his team is a half-game out of first place with the season half gone and the Patriots heading to Ralph Wilson Stadium next Sunday.

Marker Bills Notebook: Injured Players Scheduled To Return To Practice [5:33 PM] reports: Gregg Williams on the team's progress: "This is the midway point of the season. We've got a bunch of tough matchups here. We've made some progress but we can't stay where we're at. If we don't improve… The good teams will start to stand out in November and December. The teams that show up in November and December give you a chance to play in January. So we've got a long ways to go."

Marker The Bills might have to be taken seriously [3:57 PM]
AP reports: 'What makes the plot more intriguing are the troubles of the Patriots, who have lost four straight games. It lets second-guessers wonder whether New England should have dealt Bledsoe, especially to a team in its own division, and kept Tom Brady.'

Marker Favre Tops Midseason Awards [3:18 PM] reports: OFFENSIVE MVP: Drew Bledsoe -- His career has been reborn in Buffalo and the Bills might return to the glory days of Jim Kelly and company. Drew leads the NFL in passing and the 23-10 victory against the Dolphins in Miami convinced me he's worthy of this award. He's on course for 5,000 yards passing, and 32 touchdowns. Both would be career highs!

Marker Bills settling into victory routine [1:44 PM]
Niagara Falls Reporter reports: 'The Bills let Detroit stay around a little longer than they would have liked, but put them away at the end. And that, more than the scorching early-season overtime wins over Minnesota and Chicago, makes this surprising 5-3 start more than a fluke.'

Marker Lions Fall to Bills, 24-17 [1:26 PM] reports: 'The real difference in this ballgame was the quarterback play. While Drew Bledsoe turned in another outstanding performance, going 21-of-36 for 302 yards and a touchdown (94.9 rating), Harrington struggled, putting together a 20-42 performance for just 199 yards one touchdown and one interception (59.5 rating).'

Marker Game Notebook vs. Detroit Lions [12:20 PM] reports: Eric Moulds and Peerless Price are still #1 and #2 in the NFL in receiving yards with 785 and 743, respectively. Moulds & Price rank #2 and #3 in the NFL in receptions with 57 and 51, respectively, and they trail only Indy’s Marvin Harrison (58).

Marker Buffalo Bills Geography Lesson #7 [11:55 AM] reports: Buffalo Bills Geography is an educational program that integrates geography, language arts and math using the excitement of the NFL and the Buffalo Bills.

Marker Bledsoe continues brilliance [11:37 AM]
Syracuse Post-Standard reports: 'After knocking off wretched Detroit, a loser of 12 consecutive road contests, by a score of 24-17, the Bills are 5-3. And optimists, the ones with narrow September losses to the Jets and Broncos in mind, suggest that they could be 6-2 or even 7-1. And there are, chiefly, three reasons for this: a) Bledsoe, b) Bledsoe, and c) Bledsoe.'

Marker Week 8 Game Highlights (Video) [11:15 AM] reports: Watch video highlights of Sunday's win over the Lions.

Marker Fourth-and-none [10:38 AM]
Oakland Press reports: '"We thought we had something there,'' Lions head coach Marty Mornhinweg said of the ill-fated play. "It was simple. We just didn't get it done. Good football teams make those plays."'

Marker One block meant one yard [10:37 AM]
Oakland Press reports: 'But Ahanotu got a strong push off the snap and stood up Lions backup tackle Matt Joyce, playing because starter Stockar McDougle had gone out with a pulled right groin muscle. That gave the rest of Buffalo's defense enough time and space to collapse the play and drag down Stewart shy of the first down.'

Marker High School Coach Of The Week - Week 8 [10:11 AM] reports: Head coach John Faller of Sweet Home High School has been named the Buffalo Bills' high school football "Coach of the Week" for the eighth weekend of the 2002 season (Oct. 25-26). Sweet Home scored a 48-12 victory over Niagara-Wheatfield last Saturday, earning their eighth consecutive victory and their third undefeated regular season in school history. Their other unbeaten regular seasons came in 1969 and '96.

Marker Natural Born Leader: London Fletcher [9:40 AM] reports: The 2002 Buffalo Bills have invested in a new middleman. A man capable of bringing veteran leadership to a young emerging team and a man with the ability to motivate as well as dominate. To find just the right man the Bills looked to the Midwest, to the city of St. Louis. There they found what they needed in middle linebacker London Fletcher.

Marker Heading in the right direction [9:06 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'With their third straight win and Miami (5-2) idle, the Bills (5-3) are within a half-game of the Dolphins and focused on the much-anticipated meeting with the New England Patriots this week.'

Marker Ignorance is blitz against Bledsoe [9:06 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"The big thing is this team is starting to expect to win."'

Marker Nerve-racking day can't stop Jennings [9:05 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"It's a tough thing because I'm thinking about letting my teammates down and the fans down," Jennings said. "You're being pulled off on a cart and they think it's over for you. Most of my teammates don't know what's going on. I don't know what's going on. What you think about is getting back out there and helping the team."'

Marker Harrington learns lesson the hard way [9:04 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'But he's learning. Sunday was only his fifth start as a pro and he already has two wins, both of the come-from-behind variety.'

Marker Moulds' talk with Faulk paying huge dividends [9:04 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"He has an attitude about things," Moulds said. "Marshall said he leads the league in receiving and yardage, and it's still not good enough. I think that's the way you have to approach it if you want to be a solid player."'

Marker Turning the corner is elementary for Watson [9:03 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'He might have been its best player Sunday in the Bills' 24-17 victory over the Detroit Lions, and fans leaving The Ralph couldn't help but think this defense - believe it or not - just might be coming of age.'

Marker Centers now only on winning streak [9:02 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"There's a little disappointment, but I knew eventually that it would come to an end," he said. "I think I could have very easily had a catch or two today. It was just one of those days where the ball didn't bounce my way. I think I had two come my way and one was a penalty that would have come to me. But on all three of those opportunities, I struck out."'

Marker Monday Billboard [9:02 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'They may not admit it, but the Bills marked next week's game against New England on the calendar the day the schedule was released.'

Marker Lions fall short against Bills when fourth-down plays fail [7:07 AM]
Toledo Blade reports: '"I thought we had something there," Mornhinweg said. "But it’s simple - we didn’t get it done. We were stopped twice on fourth downs. Good football teams make those. The effort level was huge, but we had opportunities and didn’t execute. We didn’t make it happen."'

Marker Harrington thrown for loss by rough outing in Buffalo [7:06 AM]
Toledo Blade reports: '"That’s five straight weeks we’ve been within one drive of winning the game," said the rookie, whose team is 2-3 during that stretch. "So I’m encouraged we keep putting ourselves in that position. Nobody expected us to be competing like this. The fact that we keep coming up short, though, is not any fun."'
