Marker Magic man [4:12 PM]
CNN/SI reports: 'Dorenbos (pronounced DORN-bahs) is a rookie long-snapper for the Buffalo Bills. A collegiate free agent from the University of Texas-El Paso, he has so far made a solid impression at the Bills' St. John Fisher College camp site in suburban Rochester. Unlike most undrafted players, he has a legitimate chance to make the team.'

Marker Ugly scrimmage shows Browns still have plenty of work to do [10:37 AM]
Columbus Dispatch reports: 'But there were a lot of missed tackles, and the Bills had success running the ball.'

Marker Bills' run defense rushes to improve [9:22 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The Bills' starting defense held Cleveland to 16 net yards in 15 plays in its one series on the field. The first 16 times the Browns ran the ball, they managed a total of 10 yards.'

Marker Homecoming equals success for Fletcher and Bills' defense [9:21 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'No matter how many starters the Bills acquired in the offseason, no matter how much Sam Adams, Takeo Spikes and Jeff Posey will help, Fletcher remains the conscience of the defense. It's a good sign for the Bills when they see him fired up, knowing he'll pick up his intensity even more once the stakes are raised.'

Marker Van Pelt keeps hold of backup job [9:20 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"Alex has had a great training camp," Williams said. "He deserves to be No. 2."'

Marker Hallmark moments fill Hall of Fame day [9:19 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'For Joe DeLamielleure and James Lofton, today will be, aside from births and their wedding days, the most memorable occasion of their lives.'

Marker Born to Run [9:18 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Jill Kelly has begged her husband to relax his schedule, to take a step back and appreciate what he has around him. Buffalo connections played a major role in building the home in Richmond, where he says builders attempted to take advantage of his money. Kelly had half the house built from Buffalo companies, everything from windows to carpeting to the wiring for the in-house intercom system. He figures it saved him more than $100,000, some of which was based on trust alone.'

Marker Excitement builds for HOFers [8:58 AM]
Canton Repository reports: 'This was DeLamielleure’s 13th year of being eligible for the Hall. “The longer the wait, the sweeter the taste,” he said.'

Marker Former Bills QB Kelly talks about HOF inductee Lofton [8:57 AM]
Canton Repository reports: 'Lofton will become the third straight Buffalo representative from the Super Bowl era to go into the Hall of Fame when he is inducted today. Kelly went in last year. Former Head Coach Marv Levy was inducted in 2001. There will be more to come. Reed, running back Thurman Thomas and defensive end Bruce Smith also starred on the Bills’ Super Bowl teams. “Those three guys are no-brainers,” Kelly said.'

Marker Holcomb comes out ahead vs. Bills [8:56 AM]
Canton Repository reports: '“We started off awful slow,” said Head Coach Butch Davis, who was dismayed with his running game for the second time in as many days against Buffalo.'

Marker Couch gets the first nod at QB [8:55 AM]
Canton Repository reports: 'Couch took the first series of the day with the first unit, against Buffalo’s No. 1 defense. After Couch ran a series of plays starting on the 30, Holcomb did the same, with the other members of the No. 1 offense coming back out. However, Buffalo’s substitution pattern was different, and the Bills sent out their No. 2 defense.'

Marker Holcomb continues race to catch Couch [8:54 AM]
Canton Repository reports: 'Holcomb finished 12-of-16 for 164 yards and two scores. Couch was 8-of-13 for 79 yards and one score.'

Marker Browns' QB duel rages [5:40 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'Only Couch went against Buffalo’s first-unit defense, and he was effectively shut down during that set of plays.'

Marker Donahoe blows whistle on official [5:39 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '“ I just wanted to let him know, just in case he didn’t get the tape,” Donahoe said with a sly grin.'

Marker The backup plan [5:38 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'Williams isn’t ready to anoint either Van Pelt or Brown as No. 2, but he reiterated that “ we want to get (Brown) as much time as we can this preseason.” To that end, it is expected that Brown is going to get the lion’s share of work in the four exhibitions to see if he’s ready to become Bledsoe’s backup. “ I don’t think of it as extra pressure,” Brown said. “ It’s a great opportunity for me and my career, but more importantly it’s a great opportunity for this team and I’m looking forward to making myself the best that I possibly can, whether that’s the second spot or the third spot.“'

Marker Joe D reaches pinnacle with Hall induction [5:37 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'Fans in Buffalo always viewed him in a positive light. They appreciated his blue-collar work ethic and his durability. They liked the fact he preferred to let his play do his talking for him. He left the caviar and champagne to the superstars. He was a beer and chicken wings kind of guy; a true Buffalonian; one of them. “ I’ve always loved the people there,” he said. “ They’re real people. There’s nothing phony about them.”'

Marker Lofton was ‘final piece' in famed Buffalo offense [5:36 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '“ He’s one of those guys whose winning attitude is infectious,” Polian says of Lofton, who is now in his second season as the San Diego Chargers’ receivers coach. “ I think the day will come in the not-so-distant future when James will get the opportunity to become a head coach in the NFL, and he’ll wind up making his mark in that job, too.”'

Marker It's early, but Bills' defense is impressive [5:35 AM]
Olean Times Herald reports: '“(The defense) looked pretty tough today,” he said. “The Browns had a lot of trouble getting back to the line of scrimmage (in the running game). “If they can play at that level all year, it will make things significantly easier for us as an offense and allow us to win some games defensively.”'

Marker Unbelievable fans, unrealistic expectations [5:34 AM]
Cleveland Plain Dealer reports: 'Tickets were cheap for this football "friendly." The difference in turnout between yesterday and the recent soccer matchup that drew mostly out-of-staters to the stadium is that this brand of football offered the opportunity to boo Tim Couch.'

Marker Griffith is out with broken finger [5:33 AM]
Cleveland Plain Dealer reports: 'Kevin Johnson was the player of the day, catching five passes for 78 yards, including a 20-yard TD from Holcomb in a red-zone drill. He also caught passes of 13 and 25 yards from Holcomb.'

Marker Browns get rowdy reception [5:32 AM]
Cleveland Plain Dealer reports: 'They don't keep official score in scrimmages, which was a good thing for the Browns. They weren't the better team on their home field yesterday.'

Marker Davis might make switch in scrimmage partners [5:31 AM]
Cleveland Plain Dealer reports: 'Davis said he would seek to replace the Bills as a workout partner, or might even add a second team to work against.'

Marker Joe D. earned respect from teammates, Canton [5:30 AM]
Cleveland Plain Dealer reports: '"He was drafted specifically to block for O.J.," Felser said. The Bills already had a fine pulling guard in Reggie McKenzie. The two became a deadly blocking duo.'

Marker Score one for Holcomb [5:29 AM]
Akron Beacon Journal reports: 'Couch supporters point out in the first live action of the preseason Couch faced Buffalo's first-team defense and Holcomb moved the ball against the backups. One other Buffalo player noticed that fact as well. '`Kelly had our twos out there and was able to be more effective,'' quarterback Drew Bledsoe said. ``I thought they both threw the ball very well. Kelly marched them down the field pretty good, and Tim threw some really nice balls. They're obviously two very good quarterbacks.'''

Marker Griffith breaks index finger, misses scrimmage [5:28 AM]
Akron Beacon Journal reports: 'Players and coaches marveled at the huge crowd, which endured long lines to buy tickets at $5 apiece.'

Marker General Winfield always strategizing [5:27 AM]
Akron Beacon Journal reports: 'Listening to Bills Coach Gregg Williams talk about Winfield, you get the sense that the organization will do everything in its power to work out an extension. ``I think this will be a really good year for Antoine,'' Williams said. ``The team had gotten better around him. He's a very smart player and pound-for-pound, you'll have a hard time in the National Football League seeing anybody hit harder than Antoine Winfield. I loved him when he came out of Ohio State and now that I get a chance to coach him, I've seen that he will rock you. He hits like a linebacker in a corner back's body.'''

Marker New season, same story [5:26 AM]
Lorain Morning Journal reports: 'On the positive side, the Browns did put pressure on the Bills quarterbacks. They were credited with six sacks, although in the scrimmage all the pass rusher had to do was tag the quarterback for a sack.'

Marker Make no mistake, Davis is watching [5:25 AM]
Lorain Morning Journal reports: 'A crowd of 37,818 watched the scrimmage. About 9,000 fans were walk-up customers. Many of them were still lined up outside Cleveland Browns Stadium when the scrimmage began. ''What a great, unbelievable turnout,'' Davis said. ''When I coached at the University of Miami, I'm sad to report we had regular season crowds that didn't draw 37,000. I think it's an indication of the preseason excitement.'''

Marker Fans show Holcomb their love [5:24 AM]
Dayton Daily News reports: 'By the time Holcomb took the field, the Bills had replaced many of their starters. But nothing could disrupt the lovefest between the quarterback and the fans who remember his heroic effort in last season's playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He threw for 429 yards and three touchdowns that day, and here he was again, filling the air with hope.'
