Marker Demands of TV forced Joe D. to shorten speech [8:55 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Inductees were asked to limit their speeches to seven minutes and presenters to three minutes for television purposes. When the first speakers exceeded their time, both Joe D. and I (his presenter) were told to cut our speeches even shorter because the producers at ESPN were tearing their hair out trying to stay within their allotted time.'

Marker Bills edge Ravens on late return [5:19 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'The Bills defensive reserves failed in the final minute, allowing rookie quarterback Kyle Boller to drive the Ravens 59 yards in eight plays for what could have been the tying touchdown with 23 seconds to play.'

Marker Oddsmaker plays up beasts of AFC [5:18 AM]

Marker Ravens start on wrong foot [5:16 AM]

Marker First sack eludes Suggs in his debut [5:15 AM]
Baltimore Sun reports: 'In the Ravens' preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills, quarterback Boller drew oohs and aahs from the crowd of 68,550 at M&T Bank Stadium, and linebacker Suggs received a cheer for one nice tackle and nothing else. Given ample opportunities to rush the passer, the sack specialist and 10th overall pick in this year's NFL draft was a non-factor.'

Marker Exuberant Boller adds to excitement [5:14 AM]
Baltimore Sun reports: 'A play or two earlier in his highly anticipated, third-quarter debut, Boller had flicked a 30-yard pass down the middle of the field. It looked effortless - and a sign of times to come the way Boller hit Ravens tight end Trent Smith for a 39-yard gain.'

Marker R. Lewis returns to lineup, shows no signs of injury [5:13 AM]
Baltimore Sun reports: 'Billick did not muster up much of a defense on how the Ravens could allow a 87-yard punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter with the game tied at 13. "It needs to be a lot better, obviously," Billick said of the special teams play.'

Marker Ravens' QB Picture Still Fuzzy [5:12 AM]
Washington Post reports: 'Redman's best series was his second, with the Ravens beginning on the Bills 42-yard line after a defensive stand left Buffalo to punt from its 8. The drive began with two runs, and then on third down and four, Redman took advantage of superior pass protection to complete a 13-yarder to Marcus Robinson.'

Marker Boller impressive in Ravens debut [5:11 AM]
Washington Times reports: 'The Ravens' first-team offense played 17 plays against the Bills and looked sharp on their second possession of the game. Redman marched the Ravens 42 yards on seven plays for a Jamal Lewis 1-yard touchdown. On the drive Redman went 2-for-2 for 32 yards.'

Marker Joe Burns: Still battling [5:10 AM]
Thomasville Times Enterprise reports: 'Joe Burns has been through this before. And chances are, the former Thomas County Central and Georgia Tech standout will have to go through it again.'

Marker Updates on local players in NFL camps [5:09 AM]
El Paso Times reports: 'Dorenbos is the first-team long snapper for the Bills. He's made a great impression in camp and has been written up several times in the Buffalo News for his accuracy. He's expected to make the team as the Bills have a long history of dedicating a spot solely to that position.'

Marker Hopes to have deal concluded by next week [5:07 PM]
ESPN reports: 'McGahee is making a remarkable recovery and Rosenhaus has insisted his client is ready to return to the field. Donahoe and the Bills have espoused a more prudent approach and could place McGahee on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list once he is signed.'

Marker McGahee's agent: deal close [5:04 PM]
AP reports: '``We made significant progress on a number of issues, including the term of the agreement, the signing bonus and the incentives,'' agent Drew Rosenhaus said. ``We're hopeful that we'll be able to iron out some details and close in on an agreement ... and possibly have a deal done by early next week.'''

Marker Ravens, Redman take on retooled Buffalo defense [9:38 AM]
AP reports: Buffalo's first unit probably won't play more than a quarter, but they expect to make the most of it. ``We're just going to take this first game as a chance to learn to play together, just get out there on the field together,'' safety Coy Wire said. ``I guess it will give us a glimpse of what this defense will provide the team this year.'''

Marker Brown's matchup is personal [9:37 AM]
Baltimore Sun reports: This will be the second time the Browns have faced each other in the preseason. The Bills beat the Ravens, 31-28, in Baltimore in 1997, and the teams played during the regular season in 1999. "Last time, we lost to them and he didn't even play," Cornell Brown said. "It was a tough one."'

Marker Bills take on Ravens in preseason opener [9:35 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '" I always felt in the first preseason game, you want to go out, feel sharp, put together a good drive or a good couple drives, and that’s enough," Bledsoe said.'

Marker Bills testing their depth on 'D' line [9:32 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The Bills expect their front seven to be far more stout than last season with wide-bodies Sam Adams and Pat Williams clogging up the middle of the line of scrimmage. However, Adams and Williams figure to be far more effective if they can get adequate rest during the course of games. Ideally, the Bills would like to play Adams about 35 or 40 snaps a game. Adams reported to camp at a svelte - for him - 340 pounds. He has remarkable quickness for a man so big and has made two Pro Bowls thanks to his ability to crash into backfields. But he also has nine full years under his belt. The Bills don't want him spent by Thanksgiving.'

Marker Understudies get a chance to star [9:31 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Alex Van Pelt will be the second quarterback in the game for the Bills. Travis Brown will follow, and fourth-stringer Jason Johnson might see some time in the fourth quarter.'

AP reports: 'Agent Drew Rosenhaus said Friday that Bills president Tom Donahoe has accepted a request to meet in Baltimore for lunch Saturday, prior to Buffalo's preseason opener against the Ravens.
