Marker Bills' defense needs to pass a major test [8:53 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"They did a couple of things that they didn't do during the scrimmage," said safety Lawyer Milloy. "I think they used our aggressiveness on third down against us. (Favre) made a couple of throws that kept the drive alive. After we gave up that first touchdown, we made the necessary adjustments, which any defense does, and played pretty solid from that point on."'

Marker Fewer penalties pleases Mularkey [8:53 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"The time of possession and third downs improved, and that's what we were looking for from last week," he said. "That was the biggest key. Could we get better than we were last week in all three phases? And we did."'

Marker Favre did Bills defense a favor [5:03 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '"We wanted another crack at him," linebacker Jeff Posey said. "But we understand you can't take a chance of getting a guy that important to his team hurt in a preseason game. But most definitely, we wished he could've stayed in the game after that good first drive."'

Marker Bills show their fans plenty of positives in the preseason [5:02 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'The defense and special teams have looked as sharp as last season, when they were among the two or three best units in the NFL. The rush defense, a concern after the departure of Pat Williams, has been particularly impressive. The pass rush has been decent. We know the linebackers are solid. I continue to believe this secondary has the potential to be the best in team history. There appears to be depth at most positions.'

Marker Bills enjoy rare strong preseason [5:01 AM]
Lockport Union Sun and Journal reports: 'The Bills have never gone undefeated in the preseason, but have gone 3-1 on several occasions, most recently in 2003.'

Marker Bills defense aims to rise to the occasion [5:00 AM]
USA Today reports: '"We just want to make guys understand that we've got a young quarterback and we've got his back," defensive coordinator Jerry Gray says. "We want J.P. to know that whatever happens, the defense will be right there."'

Marker Inside slant [4:58 AM]
The Sports Xchange reports: 'Given Donahoe's history of not overpaying for any player, dating back to his days with the Pittsburgh Steelers, it's highly unlikely he'll pay Clements top dollar before the start of the regular season, or after that.'

Marker Strategy and personnel [4:57 AM]
The Sports Xchange reports: 'George Gause vs. Constantin Ritzmann for the No. 4 defensive end spot -- Both players are making plays in practice and in the preseason games. Ritzmann took a big step forward with two more sacks against Green Bay's second teamers, giving him four in two games.'

Marker Notes, quotes [4:56 AM]
The Sports Xchange reports: 'Mularkey has long been a Levy admirer and has adopted many of his motivational quips. "I told the team he's one of the greatest that has ever coached in the NFL, a gentleman who has seen it all," Mularkey said. "We all admire what he's done and we're shooting for some of the same goals he accomplished."'

Marker The Winning Combination: 80, 83... [4:55 AM] reports: '"You learn not to think about the numbers," Haddad said. "You just have to go out there and compete against yourself."'

Marker Five things to know [4:01 PM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'The club is not concerned about left tackle Mike Gandy, released by Chicago last year. Gandy, signed to replace former starter Jonas Jennings, was recruited to compete for the starting job, and he has won it. Forget about the club moving center Trey Teague to left tackle and inserting rookie Duke Preston in his place. That's a last resort.'

Marker Bills' first-year starting QB Losman won't go it alone [3:47 PM]
CBS Sportsline reports: '"This is a team game, and there were a lot of people on Ben's team who helped make that possible. So, to come in here and say a rookie quarterback can do all that ... yeah, it's possible if you're surrounded by the right people.'

Marker Bills get the party jumping [8:59 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Too bad J.P. Losman won't get to see the Green Bay Packers' defense any more this season.'

Marker Gandy shows he can match up with the league's best [8:58 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"I think he does a pretty good job," Gbaja-Biamila said. "He's very athletic, and usually when you think of an O-lineman you hope that he's not as athletic so you can use your quickness. Even when I used my quickness to beat him around the corner he's able to recover, and that's what a left tackle needs. I remember playing him in Chicago, and I think he's improved a lot since then."'

Marker Losman's fun to watch, but Willis makes it great [8:57 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The guy is a superstar in the making. He started 11 games last season and gained 1,128 yards. He scored 13 touchdowns. This year, he's capable of a lot more - you fantasy nuts can put him down for, oh, 350 carries, 1,500 yards and 15-16 TDs.'

Marker Haddad makes his case to stick around [8:56 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"If they put me in a position to be successful, I can go out there and I can prove myself," Haddad said. "The more opportunities I get the more confident I am of what I can do."'

Marker Bills tickets say thanks for life-saving gift [8:55 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Marc donated a kidney to Michael earlier this month, nearly 14 years after donating bone marrow to him in another life-saving operation. Michael, now 26, still isn't sure that he has adequately repaid his brother. "There's no way to put a price on it," he said. "The best we could do was to buy him season tickets for the Bills."'

Marker Losman on the loose [5:03 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'Running around the field as if he were playing sandlot football, the Buffalo Bills 24-year-old quarterback gave a taste of things to come, leading the Bills to a 27-7 victory over the Green Bay Packers Saturday night.'

Marker Kid Losman has plenty of moves [5:02 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'After watching the lead-footed Drew Bledsoe enable opponents to experience the joy of sacks the past three seasons, it was fun seeing a Bills quarterback who wasn't a sitting duck in the pocket. It was fun watching a young man on the move.'

Marker Losman runs the show [5:01 AM]
Niagara Gazette reports: 'Sure, Losman has a lot to learn. In fact, he may be too eager to run, taking off at the slightest sense of pressure. But opposing defenses can’t just plan on sending everyone at the quarterback and piling up the sacks like they did against Bledsoe.'

Marker New No. 7 shines [5:00 AM]
Toronto Sun reports: '"That guy (Losman) may be stealing our blocks," said Bills running back Willis McGahee, who eased concerns about his minor knee tweak from last week with a six-yard touchdown run. "Keep watching him ... You don't know what he can do at any point of the game."'

Marker Buffalo 27, Green Bay 7 [4:58 AM]
The Sports Network reports: 'Lionel Gates led the Bills with 36 rushing yards on seven attempts and capped the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown run with 9:52 to play. Rian Lindell added two field goals, including a 54-yarder, in the win.'

Marker Bills Roll Packers 27-7 [4:57 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'Losman, did at times, seem to have 'happy feet' and scrambled when sometimes it was not necessary to do so. One occurrence led to a safety after getting sacked in his own endzone. Lucky for him, the Packers were called for defensive holding to nullify the play. Bills coaches and players were vocal in letting their QB know that taking unnecessary hits is something to avoid. His scrambling though did lead to some nice gains as well throughout the first half.'

Marker Bills Throttle Packers 27-7 [4:56 AM]
WGRZ-TV reports: 'Without Favre, the Packers managed a mere 108 yards of offense the rest of the game.'

Marker Bills, Losman Topple Packers [4:56 AM]
WROC-TV reports: 'Down 7-0, the Bills responded with 27 consecutive points. They improved to 2-0, marking only the second time the team has opened a preseason with two straight wins -- and first since 1966.'

Marker Bills Dominate Packers [4:55 AM] reports: 'The defense had four sacks and an interception by Jabari Greer. Special teams saw a big kick return from ReShard Lee and a punt return from Drew Haddad, both for big yardage and place kicker Rian Lindell had two field goals, including a 54-yarder.'

Marker Special Teams [4:54 AM] reports: 'In a recurring theme dating back to last season, the Bills special teams flat-out dominated.'

Marker Moulds Fine After Big Hit [4:53 AM] reports: '"I'm feeling a lot better than I did after the hit," Moulds said after the game. "I just got the wind knocked out of me. It was nothing major."'
