Buffalo Bills News - November 5, 2004

Marker Time to Separate Good, Bad, and Ugly [12:43 PM] reports: 'I think the Bills are starting to get more confidence. They've won two of their last three games and they're doing it the old fashioned way, running the football. Willis McGahee has been running very affectively and has given this offense a spark. Travis Henry is still a great back and I think he'll contribute to this team throughout the season. The important thing is that these two guys don't lose focus of the team's goal, and that's winning. They can't make this into an issue that divides the locker room.'

Marker Jets are ready to face Adams [10:41 AM]
Bergen Record reports: '"You don't block Sam Adams," coach Herman Edwards said. "You just try to aggravate him to go one way or another."'

Marker Jets Fly into Town [10:40 AM]
WOKR-TV reports: 'Bills 19 Jets 17.'

Marker Pucillo trying to remain positive despite bench time [8:54 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"Of course it's really depressing because I want to be out there," said Pucillo, a seventh-round draft pick in 2002. "But the situation is what it is. You've got to stay positive. You've got to just come in here and try to help the team any way you can in a backup role and be ready to play when the chance occurs."'

Marker Young fan coming home for first time [8:53 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"He's been a Bills fan for years," his father said by phone Wednesday. "Don't ask me how he started liking that team. He just happened to. He always has."'

Marker Losman's tenure will leave stamp on Donahoe's legacy [8:52 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'That's one positive in looking to the future. Donahoe has kept his promise of managing the cap and the Bills are well-positioned - from a salary cap standpoint - to succeed down the road.'

Marker Bills face test in Jets' fast, physical front four [8:51 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Defensive ends John Abraham and Shaun Ellis, nose tackle Jason Ferguson and defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson form one of the NFL's best D-lines. They have 17 of their team's 20 sacks and are the main reason for the Jets' remarkable defensive turnaround.'

Marker Defensive line is helping Bills on the run [5:13 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '"To come in and help the offense score a couple touchdowns, I thought it was a great time," Bannan said. "It was very interesting being on that side of the ball and hitting the defenders. It was really unbelievable."'

Marker Jersey Backers Share Common Allegiance [9:57 PM] reports: 'What do you get when you put a research meteorologist, ordained minister, broadcaster, cement truck driver and military member under one roof? No, it's not the setup for a joke, but rather the Central New Jersey Bills Backers.'

Marker Winning is long overdue for Bills [9:27 PM]
Niagara Gazette reports: 'The 2-5 Bills only have wins over the lowly Miami Dolphins (1-7) and Arizona Cardinals (2-5). The Bills have been competitive in losses to teams with winning records this season (Jets, New England, Jacksonville and Baltimore), but hearing “nice try” isn’t good enough any more. The Bills keep saying they’re good enough to win. Now’s the time to prove it.'

Marker Changes In Store For Vincent [9:15 PM]
WGR-AM reports: 'WGR Sports Radio 550 has learned that when Troy Vincent returns from his knee injury, he'll play at safety.'

Marker Cowart might not be back against Buffalo [9:14 PM]
AP reports: '``I'd rather make sure I'm right before I get out there,'' Cowart said Thursday. ``That's my concern. I want to come back rolling. I don't want to come back trying to feel my way around. I'd rather wait that extra week or wait one more game to make sure I'm ready to roll.'''

Marker Bills defenders have plan to shut down Jets RB Martin [9:13 PM]
AP reports: '''It ain't no challenge,'' Williams said. ''We've just got to go out there and play hard like we do every Sunday.'''

Marker Jets' Pennington: Beware the Bills [5:44 PM]
Newark Star Ledger reports: '"I remember that and I was thinking about that Monday night after the game was well in hand in the fourth quarter," Pennington said yesterday. "I was thinking how we were going to handle this week and make sure we don't go up there and lay an egg. That's basically what we did last year. We were physically beat in all phases of the game."'

Marker Mularkey takes no malarkey [5:43 PM]
Newark Star Ledger reports: 'Bledsoe has been sacked 24 times, fourth-most in the NFL. How troubled are you by that?
A lot of that is getting the ball out of Drew's hands and maybe helping in the protection with the backs and tight ends.'

Marker Bills Remember Meadowlands [2:58 PM] reports: '"Well, we passed the ball a lot (in the first game) and anytime you pass the ball you give rushers a chance to get to the quarterback," Jennings said. "Even though Abraham had a good game we still could have won it. We've just got to do what we've got to do and go out and play football. We can't worry about one person."'

Marker Bills vs. Jets Sold Out [2:58 PM] reports: 'The Bills-Jets game this Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium is sold out and will be televised locally.'

Marker Maguire to Receive Distinguished Service Award [2:57 PM] reports: 'Former Buffalo Bills’ punter Paul Maguire will receive the 19th annual Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Distinguished Service Award from the Monday Quarterback Club at ceremonies on Monday, November 8 during the club’s luncheon at HSBC Arena in downtown Buffalo.'

Marker CB Vincent Named Neighborhood MVP [2:57 PM] reports: 'The Ameriquest Mortgage Neighborhood MVP Award recognizes an NFL player each week during the regular season for his dedication to making physical improvements to neighborhoods in his community.'

Marker Bills CB Vincent returns to practice [12:35 PM]
The Sports Network reports: 'According to head coach Mike Mularkey, Vincent's status for Sunday's game against AFC-East foe New York (6-1) is unknown.'

Marker Bills looking to boost air mileage [8:51 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The Bills' pass offense ranks 28th in yards, so it's no surprise Buffalo is below average on pass completions of 20-plus yards so far. The Bills have 16, which is tied for 25th in the league. The league average for teams with seven games played is 20.3.'

Marker Moorman's leg provides Bills an edge [8:50 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Moorman can make things happen with his legs, but it's his right one that has made him the Bills' secret weapon. Some feel the 28-year-old Kansas native has been his team's most valuable player so far. He boomed an 80-yarder in the opener and hasn't let up since. His gross average (43.2) is sixth in the AFC, but it doesn't begin to reflect his value. In the Bills' two wins, he was astonishing in the brutal winds of Ralph Wilson Stadium.'

Marker Teague poised to return [8:50 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The Bills suddenly are banged up at receiver. Josh Reed has a bruised kneecap and is not likely to play. That puts Sam Aiken up to No. 3 receiver. Drew Haddad is questionable with a sore hamstring. If Haddad does not improve, the Bills would have three healthy receivers on the roster. That could prompt a promotion from the practice squad.'

Marker Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets [8:00 AM]
WIVB-TV reports: 'That's why I see the Jets winning 17-13.'

Marker Bills look to cool Jets' offense [5:01 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '"I feel like we talked about getting to that next level," said linebacker Takeo Spikes. "Start here and keep climbing. Since about a month ago, there were several guys coming in here when it's pitch dark in the morning, and then leaving at 6:30 at night, putting in 12-hour days. It shows how much dedication is put toward the common goal that we all want."'

Marker Losman can't catch a break [5:00 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '"Every time I say I'm doing good I go out there and it hurts," said the rookie first-round pick. "I didn't say anything this week so I'm going to see if that strategy works."'

Marker McGahee Posing Challenge for Jets [4:59 AM]
New York Times reports: '"And I'll tell you what he does: he can run downhill. The other guy was more of a slasher and cutter. This guy will run downhill. I know the guys from Miami have a passion for the end zone and the way they run the football. We've just got to keep it in front."'

Marker Chad plans to repay Bills [4:58 AM]
New York Post reports: 'A year ago, the Jets were coming off a big feel-good Monday Night Football victory at home over the Titans when they went "up there" to Buffalo the following Sunday to play the Bills and got ambushed. They were physically assaulted in a 17-6 loss that closed out any chances they had at a playoff berth.'

Marker About the Bills [4:57 AM]
New York Newsday reports: 'They may have an aging quarterback who's been an easy target for the Jets' pass rush, but the Bills are dangerous. McGahee provides a changeup to a Jets defense that is accustomed to facing Henry. Buffalo's defense is tied for second in the league in total yardage allowed, fourth in rushing yardage, and sixth in points. The Jets needed a last-minute field goal to beat the Bills, 16-14, at home four weeks ago. It will be even harder to beat the Bills on the road.'
