Marker Browns name McCown; Clements interview set [8:51 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Notre Dame officials are expected to conduct an interview Friday with Bills offensive coordinator Tom Clements for the Irish head coaching position. A university source told the Chicago Tribune that Athletics Director Kevin White, incoming university President Rev. John I. Jenkins and a former Irish football player are to fly to Buffalo today.'

Marker Ditka on Clements: 'He is a great coach' [7:35 AM]
Chicago Tribune reports: '"I love him," Ditka said Wednesday. "He is a great coach, a great family man. I got him out of being a lawyer (for the second time when Ditka hired him as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Saints)."'

Marker Bills' alumni dole out $50K [6:00 AM]
Business First of Buffalo reports: 'The Buffalo Bills Alumni Foundation held its annual luncheon Wednesday, dispersing more than $50,000 to local charities. The luncheon was held at the Amherst Marriott Hotel.'

Marker Robiskie snub of Garcia speaks volumes [6:00 AM]
Tonawanda News reports: 'But that begs the question is Robiskie forsaking his chance to win now for a chance to see if McCown is the quarterback of the future for the Browns even if that future doesn't include Robiskie? "I'm not in a position to look ahead, I've got to look at Buffalo," Robiskie said. "I can't say I'm going to start getting this guy prepared for next year. I've got to get him to try to win a game for me. It's about trying to win and trying to win today."'

Marker Bills' big Pat steps out of the shadows [5:02 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '"I don't know if there are two better D-tackles in the NFL and then you add Ron Edwards into the mix, we really have a three-headed monster," said middle linebacker London Fletcher, who leads the Bills with 117 tackles heading into Sunday's home game against the Cleveland Browns. "Sam has quickness, Pat has brute strength and Ron has a mixture of both."'

Marker Clements, Irish match up [5:01 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '"No, it doesn't surprise me," Bills coach Mike Mularkey said of the apparent interest in Clements. "Tom's a good football coach, he's been very productive in whatever he's done coaching quarterbacks or as a coordinator."'

Marker TE Neufeld bumped up to starting role [5:00 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '"Our tight ends have played well for us this year," said quarterback Drew Bledsoe. "It's the facts of life in the NFL, you have to have guys step up and play for you. As with any position, a guy goes down, you have to have somebody step in."'

Marker Season in hell for Garcia [4:58 AM]
Toronto Sun reports: '"We're struggling as a team. It's disappointing. We're all in this together and we're just trying to find a way to get ourselves out of this hole we've dug ourselves. It's not an easy thing but we need to maintain our outlook and poise, and try to fight through it."'

Marker Irish eyes are on Clements [4:52 AM]
New York Daily News reports: 'Clements has no head coaching experience and may not be a sexy candidate, but he wants the job. That in itself is big news.'

Marker Bettis endorses former Steelers assistant Clements as Notre Dame coach [4:51 AM]
AP reports: 'Clements coached the Steelers' quarterbacks, but Bettis still saw enough from the former Notre Dame quarterback during practices to be impressed. As a player, Clements led Notre Dame to an unbeaten season and the 1973 national championship.'

Marker Cleveland (3-9) at Buffalo (6-6) [4:50 AM]
AP reports: 'At 0-4, many figured the Buffalo Bills were already thinking ahead to next season. They thought wrong.'

Marker Inside slant [4:49 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: '"We finished No. 2 in total defense last year but it doesn't mean much if you miss the playoffs," strong safety Lawyer Milloy said. "The teams in the playoffs were plus-whatever in the turnover area. Coach Gray emphasizes it every practice. It's our focus in practice and it carries over in the game."'

Marker Strategy and personnel [4:48 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'Backup Tim Euhus is doubtful with a sore knee, leaving only one healthy tight end on the roster (Ryan Neufeld). The Bills moved to shore things up by signing Rod Trafford to their active roster, but it's not likely he'll be able to help them beyond special teams duty on Sunday. Trafford was with the Bills in training camp and was on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad.'

Marker Notes, quotes [4:47 AM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'If Clements were to leave, the Bills would be stuck searching for their fifth offensive coordinator in six years.'

Marker Campbell's Out For The Year [4:45 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'Jason Peters had his number changed to 85. He's practicing more with the tight ends than the tackles this week.'

Marker Clements played QB at Notre Dame in '70s [9:23 PM]
ESPN reports: ' has confirmed that Clements, a former Notre Dame quarterback, will meet Thursday night with Irish officials about the school's head coaching vacancy. The timing of the session was set, in part, so that it will not conflict with Clements' responsibilities as the resurgent Bills prepare for their Sunday matchup with the Cleveland Browns.'

Marker Tight End Campbell Out; Trafford In [9:16 PM] reports: 'The former NFL Europe standout is familiar with Buffalo's offense, having spent part the entire 2004 preseason with the team before being released a week before the regular season began. "Rod has been out of the system for four months and we'll get him caught up as much as we can with out overloading him and expecting him to do too much," Mularkey said on Wednesday.'

Marker Campbell Done, Neufeld Starts [9:15 PM] reports: 'I'm going to do the best job I can, Neufeld said of moving into the starting line up. I've learned a lot from Mark throughout this season and hopefully I can get in there and do what he's been doing.'

Marker Bills vs. Browns Preview [9:14 PM] reports: The Bills are on fire as they will try to continue their improbable playoff run against the Browns. Their 6-6 record puts them on the fringe of the playoffs. Cleveland is going in the opposite direction as they've lost six straight and are playing out the string. This is a classic trap game as the Bills could get caught looking ahead to next week's battle with fellow playoff wannabe Cincinnati.

Marker Success has Bledsoe having fun again [9:14 PM]
AP reports: The ever-immobile Bledsoe will never be mistaken for Atlanta's agile and powerful Michael Vick when it comes to scrambling out of the pocket. But he's no longer the aging, struggling, supposedly washed-up player many were calling him after the worst performance of his career in Buffalo's 29-6 loss to New England on Nov. 14.

Marker McGahee living up to expectations [9:13 PM] reports: On a neatly manicured grass practice field, under a cloudless and sunny August morning, in front of scores of interested onlookers, including members of the national media, Willis McGahee -- the Bills' 2003 first-round draft choice -- was making his long-awaited NFL debut, a full 19 months after suffering one of the most gruesome knee injuries anyone had ever seen.

Marker Malloy criticizes firing; N.D. reportedly to meet with former Irish QB Clements [5:47 PM]
AP reports: 'Clements, 51, has connections to two of Notre Dame's most successful coaches. He played under Ara Parseghian, leading the 1973 team to a national championship, and was an assistant under Lou Holtz from 1992-95. ''He has a good football mind, he's a good, solid person, and he's a Notre Dame alum,'' Holtz told The Associated Press on Wednesday.'

Marker Bills place TE Campbell on injured reserve [4:40 PM]
Sportsticker reports: 'While the team did not release the full extent of the injury, Campbell hurt his knee while blocking for running back Willis McGahee late in the first quarter of Sunday's 42-32 victory over the Miami Dolphins.'

Marker Browns go with rookie over Garcia again [4:20 PM]
AP reports: 'Jeff Garcia's right shoulder isn't the only thing strained for Cleveland's quarterback. His relationship with the Browns doesn't appear to be much better.'

Marker Improved offenses spark turnarounds [3:57 PM]
ESPN reports: 'McGahee, though, has provided a hammer for the offense, a workhorse back who can set a game's tempo and keep opposition defenses honest. The former University of Miami star, now back to full strength following his lengthy rehabilitation from the catastrophic knee injury he sustained on the final carry of his college career, clearly experienced a longer breaking-in period than most. Over the last seven games, though, McGahee has been breaking down defenses.'

Marker Bills lose tight end for remainder of season [3:53 PM]
The Sports Network reports: 'Rookie Tim Euhus will move into the starting role for the Bills. He caught four passes for 32 yards with a touchdown in the 42-32 win over the Dolphins, and this season has 11 catches for 98 yards with a pair of scores.'

Marker Bills Sign TE Trafford [3:09 PM] reports: 'Trafford spent time on the Bills practice squad last season before he was released prior to this season. He has spent the majority of this year on the Eagles practice squad.'

Marker Palmer among AFC weekly honorees [1:34 PM]
The Sports Network reports: 'Quarterback Carson Palmer of Cincinnati, cornerback Drayton Florence of San Diego and kick returner/cornerback Terrence McGee of Buffalo were named AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for the 13th week of the 2004 season.'

Marker Big Game for Talley vs. Hometown Browns [12:42 PM] reports: '"The ball was being thrown to my brother on a Big Dig route and I just ran down and jumped in front of it and caught the ball. I started to run down the field and as he started to close on me, Dwight Drane came up and hit my brother square in the face and knocked the snot out of him. I just ran the rest of the 60 yards."'
