Marker Kelly tackling auto racing [8:51 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"I enjoy the race course," said Kelly, who will be Grand Marshal at the event. "I think from a spectator standpoint, they enjoy it as long as they can see what's coming on from the turns. It's interesting from the standpoint that it goes by the pits and then you wait about a minute and a half and boom, they're there. But Watkins Glen is a place I've been to many times. I enjoyed the people. I love it."'

Marker Ask Bills GM Tom Donahoe [7:53 AM]
WKBW-TV reports: 'E-mail your questions for the GM to'

Marker Henry deserved better from Bills [7:52 AM]
Lockport Union Sun and Journal reports: 'True, his relationship with the team likely had deteriorated beyond repair after he lost the starting running back job last season — but I can’t help wishing that the team had found a way to use both Henry and the explosive Willis McGahee at the same time. Henry was a warrior in his time with the Bills, twice rushing for more than 1,300 yards. He also played through numerous injuries, including a broken bone in his leg.'

Marker Texans' rush, no Ricky are breaks for Bills [5:02 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'The Bills will open at home against the Houston Texans on Sunday, Sept. 11. There couldn't be many softer spots for second-year quarterback.'

Marker Losman growing at his own beat [9:26 PM]
USA Today reports: '"I should know after about Week 3 or 4. I'm going to look back and either go, 'This football thing is going to happen for me.' Or I'm going to look back and say, 'Man, this is going to be really tough.' But until I know, this little waiting period is stressful."'

Marker Kelly fuels competitive itch with car racing [9:24 PM]
AP reports: '"I ran the no-huddle offense. Well, that's what this is, it's fast-paced," Kelly said Wednesday. "I just love it. I really do. I'm a NASCAR freak."'

Marker How Will the Bills’ Offense Be Different? [4:18 PM] reports: '"We can do so many things now," Moulds said. "We can put guys in the backfield, we can put Roscoe in the backfield, you can put Lee back there, you can use those guys' speed and mix it up a little bit. I think it's going to be tough for guys to come in and throw coverage and try to do different things and try to take one guy away. It's going to be more diverse because if they do that we're going to get Roscoe down the seam, going to get Lee down the seam for a touchdown. I think teams are going to have to respect the speed outside."'

Marker Wilson Posts Double Victory at USTA National Championships [12:12 PM] reports: 'Mary Wilson, the wife of Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson, showed the family’s athletic success expands beyond the football field.'

Marker New York's senators seek careful check of Supreme Court nominee [9:06 AM]
AP reports: 'The son of a former Bethlehem Steel executive, Roberts was born in Buffalo but left when his family moved when he was a young boy. But his childhood was apparently long enough to make him a fan of the city's football team, the Bills.'

Marker Mary Wilson earns two titles [8:58 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Mary Wilson, the wife of Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson, won two titles last Friday in the United States Tennis Association's National Grass Court Championships, held in Forest Hills, Queens.'

Marker Bills need Losman to make plays [7:19 AM]
ESPN reports: 'Offensive coordinator Tom Clements will change the passing game that he had for immobile QB Drew Bledsoe to a lot more roll outs and bootlegs, where Losman can challenge the defensive perimeter. It will also also simplify his reads because he will only really have to look at half the field. Look for Buffalo to also utilize a considerable amount of QB draw plays, where Losman has the opportunity to tuck the ball and run if he doesn't see something open.'

Marker Matthews adapting to new role [7:14 AM]
Daytona Beach News Journal reports: '"I was planning on retiring when Buffalo called because they had a lot of injuries at quarterback," he said. "I ended up playing just about the entire second half of that exhibition game even though I didn't know the system at all. It was a lot of fun. I got to play a little bit. I had a blast." Matthews knows his role when he returns this year. He'll be the No. 3 quarterback behind J.P. Losman and Kelly Holcomb. "My role is to mentor J.P.," he said. "That's it. I'm always making suggestions anyway. At meetings, I'm always drawing up plays. Sometimes they try them and sometimes they get thrown in the garbage can."'

Marker Titans trade for Pro Bowl RB Henry [5:09 PM] reports: 'The Titans and Henry also have agreed to terms on a multi-year extension of his contract.'

Marker Backup RB Battle Could Be Tight Race [4:11 PM] reports: 'The likely front-runner for the job is RaShard Lee, who signed with the Bills on May 16 as an unrestricted free agent after spending the last two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas released him less than two weeks earlier. In his short time with the team, Lee has impressed Bills head coach Mike Mularkey, who said Lee made the most of his opportunity at some Organized Team Activies when both Henry and McGahee were missing.'

Marker Bills Digest Training Camp Tip Sheet [3:31 PM] reports: 'The Bills Digest Training Camp Preview issue hits newsstands in WNY on Tuesday July 19! The Official Publication of the Bills can be found at your local Wegmans, Tops and Noco Express shops, or online at'

Marker Belichick hoists Lombardi Trophy again [9:47 AM]
Northwest Arkansas Times reports: 'Buffalo has a strong defense and special teams and those can take a team a long way. The Bills are moving in the right direction, but how far can they go this season?'

Marker Candidates line up to replace Henry [8:51 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"Joe Burns has the most experience of the guys who will be in camp. Shaud Williams did an outstanding job for us last year. We were impressed this spring with ReShard Lee, who we picked up from Dallas, and Lionel Gates, who we drafted in the seventh round. So we have four backs who we think will be very competitive to see who becomes Willis' backup."'

Marker Handwriting was on wall for Henry [8:51 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'I imagine fans have mixed emotions. Henry certainly had his issues, both on the field (fumbles) and off (he pleaded guilty in 2001 to attempted sexual misconduct in an incident involving a 15-year-old girl). But you had to respect him as a player. He epitomized this city's blue-collar work ethic. He played with as much toughness and heart as any Buffalo Bill in recent memory.'

Marker Bills confirm trade, but Titans remain silent [7:05 AM]
Murfreesboro Daily News Journal reports: '"Jacksonville was really up and down and couldn't seem to make up their mind with what they wanted to do," Donahoe said. "Tennessee gave us the best offer and gave us really what we were looking for."'

Marker Del Rio's words spur Reese's actions [7:04 AM]
Murfreesboro Daily News Journal reports: 'No one person was more responsible for making this trade happen than the Jaguars' head coach because once he spoke up last week about the team's interest in acquiring the veteran running back, Reese sprung into action.'

Marker Thoughts on Henry, NHL ‘n Tiger’s win [7:03 AM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'It could be argued that no matter which team Henry is traded to, his situation is no different than playing second banana to Willis McGahee. But, as often happens in sports, sometimes a change of teams is necessary for change’s sake. And the reality is, Henry has a lot better chance of earning the starting job from either Brown or Taylor, than he does McGahee.'

Marker Bills trade Henry to Titans [5:01 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '"On paper, did Tennessee get the best of this deal? Probably," Donahoe said. "They got a heck of a running back for a third-round pick. But we'll take the pick and hopefully we can use it to our advantage next year."'

Marker Henry gives Titans extra opportunities [4:56 AM]
Nashville Tennessean reports: 'Bills President Tom Donahoe portrayed the long-running negotiations as painful. "It's probably been almost as difficult as childbirth, at least from what my wife tells me," he said. "But we're really glad it's over. ... Tennessee has shown the most consistent interest in Travis throughout the whole process. ..."'

Marker Bills, not Titans, say Henry deal done [4:56 AM]
Nashville City Paper reports: '“We don’t want to make the trade unless can make sure of some kind long-term benefit from it,” Reese said. “He’s 26, so he’s probably not going to play for another eight to 10 years, but we do need some kind of assurances that he’s going to be here for a little while."'

Marker Bills pin blame on Jags [4:56 AM]
Florida Times Union reports: 'According to a league source, the Jaguars had worked out a long-term contract extension with Henry last week and offered a third-round pick to the Bills as compensation. After realizing the Titans had made the same offer, the Jaguars were prepared to counter with a second-round choice but said they never got the chance because Donahoe stopped returning phone calls before finishing the trade with Tennessee.'

Marker It’s still full speed ahead for Beebe [4:56 AM]
Green Bay Press Gazette reports: '“You can’t teach world-class speed,” Beebe said. “I can’t make everybody a 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 in the 40. But certainly, if a kid’s a 5.0 flat, I can get him to a 4.8, and in NFL standards, that’s huge. Even at the high school level, grade school level, if you can make a kid faster and quicker, now he starts instead of just sitting on the bench. We get kids those numbers so they can get noticed and get their name back on that chart.”'

July 18, 2005

Marker Titans acquire RB Henry from Bills [9:41 PM]
Sportsticker reports: 'Henry will split time in Tennessee with Chris Brown, who rushed for 1,067 yards last season, but has missed 10 games due to injury over his first two campaigns.'
