Marker Loss of father stuns Bills DT [4:39 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '"Life is different now," Johnson said in a somber tone. "I was really close to my dad. He was a great guy, a great father. It was very tough to swallow because he was my biggest supporter. He supported me in everything I did and taught me all the qualities I have now as far as going out every day and taking every day as a blessing and working hard. That's all I knew and I learned it from him."'

Marker Bills' Edwards exits practice with deep bruise [4:39 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '"It's too early," Jauron said. "We'll just have to wait to see what tomorrow holds, so I'll wait until morning. Sometimes they come back from these very quickly and sometimes they don't."'

Marker Edwards bruises thigh, prompting Losman to speak [4:39 AM]
Niagara Gazette reports: '“You’ve just got to be ready,” Losman said. “This whole situation, I’ve just kind of been trying to force myself to get ready. It can be tough at times, but in an instance like tonight it can happen for just a couple of plays.”'

Marker Reality Is J.P. Losman Just One Play Away [4:38 AM]
WGRZ-TV reports: 'Not only that, I detected a little more maturity coming from Losman, and it has nothing to do with the facial hair. He still has plenty of football ahead of him, potentially, and he can't waste a moment of his time dwelling on what should or could have been. He has to live in the moment, because any moment could mean he's in there running the offense for real. I mean, hopefully J.P. has heard the infamous Billy Joe Hobert story some nine years ago, when Hobert suddenly found himself in a game at New England, was horrible, and admitted he didn't really know the playbook very well. Billy Joe's honesty was admirable, but he was on the next flight out of Buffalo with a one-way ticket.'

Marker Losman dealing with backup role [4:37 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: '“Right now is not the time to be thinking about anything like that,” said Losman. “I had a chance to digest everything that happened in that situation in the offseason. Right now I’m strictly focused on being ready.”'

Marker Training Camp Practice Report: Aug 19 [4:36 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: '“Trent ended up getting a quad contusion and it was a pretty deep one so they took him in and treated it quickly and tried to get it before it swelled,” said head coach Dick Jauron. “The collision was with Marshawn and his knee was a little bit sore by the end of practice so we took him off right at the end. He finished practice, but hopefully they’ll both be fine as we move forward.”'

AP reports: 'Edwards favored his right leg when he was helped up, and then walked with a slight limp as he was led to the team's locker room at training camp in suburban Rochester. The extent of the injury was not immediately known. Coach Dick Jauron was expected to address the injury following practice.'

Marker Bills rookie CB McKelvin off to inconsistent start [7:12 PM]
AP reports: '"He still has more improvement and a ways to go," Fewell said, noting McKelvin needs to work on his press coverage and learn to anticipate what receivers can do at the NFL level. "But he is progressing very nicely for us."'

Marker Bills burner Evans makes work a priority, not extension [4:53 PM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'The Bills would be crazy to let him walk, and you have to believe sooner or later something gets done -- but this is a team that allowed people like Pat Williams, Antoine Winfield, Nate Clements and London Fletcher to escape.'

Marker New coordinator tries to bring life to offense [4:52 PM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'Schonert is here and so is another round of optimism. Some of that is based on the Bills' performance a week ago against Pittsburgh when everything clicked on offense, Schonert looked like a genius and Edwards looked like the franchise quarterback this organization believes he can be.'

Marker Bills: Five things to know [4:51 PM]
CBS Sportsline reports: 'Still no word from left tackle Jason Peters, and I mean that literally.'

Marker Final practice time changed [1:35 PM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'The Bills final training camp practice at St. John Fisher on Wednesday has been changed. The workout will now begin at 9:30 am and run until 11:10 am.'

Marker Brian Moorman Blog [1:35 PM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'The Toronto trip was interesting. I hadn't bussed to a game since my days back at Pittsburg State. Although it was a little uncomfortable since I had to double up with Langston Walker. Those seats are not that big, so we got to know each other really well.'

Marker Hoping to lend a hand up front [10:59 AM]
Canandaigua Daily Messenger reports: '“It’s been great. I have been itching to get out here the whole offseason,” Ellis said. “I am just trying to take it one day at a time. I feel like I am fitting in well with these guys.”'

Marker NFL Unfair to Rochester [9:48 AM]
WHAM-TV reports: 'By the way keep in mind this same rule will apply to a regular season game. The Bills are not scheduled to be on NFL Network this year, but it is only a matter of time.'

Marker Whitner quickly becomes vocal leader [9:47 AM]
Wellsville Daily Reporter reports: '“People were like, ‘why would this guy go out there and make a guarantee after not making the playoffs for nine years’ and I wasn’t here for seven of those years,” Whitner said. “I was here for two of them and this year we have to stop it.”'

Marker Bills’ O-line, offense both playing better is no coincidence [7:51 AM]
RealFootball365.com reports: 'If the oscillating Preston can put forth a good show, he may finally get his name written on the starter’s list in ink, not to mention that he would help a team that’s still trying to overcome Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters’ huge unexcused absence. While the truant could surprise everyone by showing up before camp ends, wait until it actually happens to believe it; in the meantime, trying Preston at guard and Butler at tackle would be a worthwhile venture.'

Marker Ankle surgery has Kelsay ‘brand new’ [6:43 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '“I did my normal routine because I had surgery early enough during the offseason where when March came around I was healthy enough to participate in our activities,” he said. “More than anything, it was about staying focused and learning from the experience and realizing how much you appreciate the game once it’s been taken from you.”'

Marker The billboard [6:43 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Not a practice goes by that you don’t hear some veteran defenders shouting encouragement or giving pointers to younger players. Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said it is a positive sign that the vets have bought into what the coaches are teaching them. “It’s fun to see,” Fewell said. “The guys are expressing that to their younger teammates because they know what’s expected. It’s fun to hear them correct each other, coach each other and talk to each other. We’re working in harmony with each other right now.”'

Marker Bills a loss leader in Toronto [6:41 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '“Who buys a ticket for the Buffalo Bills between now and Dec. 1?” McCown asked during the round-table discussion. “You’d have to be dumber than a post to buy a ticket, given the fact that they were giving ’em out like candy.”'

Marker Bills' special teams should remain solid [6:18 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '"It's important to have guys who, when they step on the field, it doesn't matter what kind of play it is. If it's a racquetball game at lunch, he's trying to kill himself to win because that's who he is. You need that kind of guy on special teams, a guy who really wants to get after it. I think we have that. I know we had it before, and I think we have it now."'

Marker NFL Network has Sunday's Bills-Colts game all to itself [6:17 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'While the game will be broadcast over the air on Buffalo's ABC affiliate, WKBW-TV, Rochester's affiliate, WHAM (Channel13), is not allowed to purchase the rights because the NFL considers Rochester to be a secondary Bills market.'

Marker Jenkins showing he's more than special [6:16 AM]
Niagara Gazette reports: 'Trent Edwards said Jenkins is “in the same mold” as Reed. “I feel like Justin has come a long way,” the second-year quarterback said. “We need him to be able to adjust on the fly with the injuries that are going to occur throughout the season. Justin is a guy that can play a lot of different positions for us.”'

Marker From glory to grief to redemption [6:15 AM]
Denver Post reports: 'But Saban, Briscoe said, double-crossed him just prior to the 1969 season, telling him he would no longer be the quarterback. Briscoe asked for his release and signed with Buffalo, but the Bills wanted him to be a wide receiver. Reluctantly, Briscoe complied and went on to several successful years at the position, including a Pro Bowl year in 1970 with 57 receptions.'

Marker Two To Go [10:04 PM]
RNews.com reports: '"I think the majority of us are ready to get out of here,” said Bills Linebacker Kawika Mitchell. “We're not far from here but we're far enough that you can smell the freedom. I'm ready to get out of here but it's been a good camp so far."'

Marker Training Camp Practice Report: Aug 18 [10:02 PM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: '“I’m very, very happy with the progress that Josh has made this offseason,” said Edwards. “I was happy with the way he practiced during OTAs and minicamps and he’s progressed a ton since last year, so I’m excited for him this year.”'

Marker McKelvin turns into nice problem [11:55 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '“The two guys that are returning for us, Terrence and Roscoe, it’s pretty hard to say they’re not the top guys,” assistant head coach and special teams coach Bobby April said after the Steelers game. “They’ve had tremendous years here but he’s definitely making a statement. I mean, what can you say. This kid, that’s two weeks in a row. He almost had one last week which would have been unbelievable for his first two games to break ’em. We’re really blessed. We got three really good guys.”'
