Bills play it safe in final tuneup [3:37 AM]
Buffalo News reports:
'This summer, Edwards directed 16 drives and got five touchdowns and two field goals. Edwards ended the preseason with a passer rating of 102.6. Nobody will remember that a month from now, either.'
Lynch starts as Spiller gets night off [3:36 AM]
Buffalo News reports:
'Since starting running back Fred Jackson is out with a broken bone in his left hand, the Bills did not want to expose Spiller to any chance of injury. Jackson practiced on Tuesday and expressed optimism he will be able to play in the season opener against Miami on Sept. 12. But Jackson still probably will be listed as questionable heading into the game.'
Opponent Postgame Quotes: Lions vs. Bills [3:35 AM]
DetroitLions.com reports:
'"It would have been better to get in a little more rhythm with the offense. We had some drives stall out there; we were able to get quite a few first downs, but that’s not the name of the game – the name of the game is scoring points."'

Lions beat Bills 28-23 in preseason finale [3:33 AM]
AP reports:
'Buffalo’s Marshawn Lynch had 2 yards rushing on five carries after missing two games with an ankle injury. Bills rookie running back C.J. Spiller was rested and running back Fred Jackson missed a third straight game because of a broken left hand.'
Detroit 28, Buffalo 23 [3:32 AM]
The Sports Network reports:
'Trent Edwards started for the Bills and did nothing to hurt his chances of being the No. 1 QB come Week 1. He completed all four of his throws for 66 yards in lasting a full quarter. Next in was Brian Brohm, who threw for 78 yards on 7-of-15 attempts with an interception. Rookie Levi Brown finished out the game and was also picked off on the way to a 10-of-18, 92-yard showing.'
Lions Rally to Down Bills 28-23 in Preseason Finale [3:31 AM]
WGR-AM reports:
'The Bills led until the midway point of the third quarter thanks to a Drayton Florence 40-yard interception return for a touchdown and three 40+ yard field goals from Rian Lindell.'
Post-Game Reaction, Lions 28-Bills 23 [3:30 AM]
WGR-AM reports:
'It just becomes more and more apparent that the Bills need to cut ties with former second round pick James Hardy. He went virtually unnoticed on the playing field until the mop up duty time of the game. Even on his supposed touchdown that was called back, he should have been battling with the defensive back for the football, not hanging back and watching it unfold in front of him. Meanwhile, his training camp adversary David Nelson is getting reps with the first team and making catches in the process.'

Bills starters execute in preseason finale [9:01 PM]
BuffaloBills.com reports:
'“We wanted to run the ball and throw a couple deep (passes),” said Edwards. “I think we accomplished that on the first drive. Chan said were going to get around 12 plays and we put together a 13-play drive. In terms of what we were looking for, it was a good way to start the game.”'
Buffalo Bills 2010 Season Preview [8:32 PM]
The Sports Network reports:
'With a starting quarterback who seems to have plateaued and a head coach who does not inspire confidence in fans, the buzz around the 2010 Buffalo Bills is going to remain near-flatline. Divorce yourself from the "they'll never win with Edwards and Gailey" talk, however, and you'll find elements of this team (running back, the secondary, special teams) that are of a high caliber and will have to be respected by opponents. Though they're highly unlikely to escape the AFC East cellar in 2010, don't be surprised if the Bills are a tough out on a weekly basis. Just keep those overall expectations low, because with a shaky group of QBs and wideouts, a weak o-line, and a defense transitioning to a new system, consistent winning is not going to be in the cards during Gailey's first year on the job.'
How low will the Bills go? [4:08 PM]
Hornell Evening Tribune reports:
'This year is a lot different. They could go 2-14 or 8-8. The offensive line should be a little better and the idea of going to a 3-4 defense is intriguing even though they don’t really have the players to make it work the way it should, but their running game could be a strength and maybe Gailey will have the tools to get something out of Edwards. The key is patience. Gailey and Nix aren’t rushing themselves this season and will bring in the right players when they identify them.'
RB Bell to be well supported vs. Lions [8:41 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports:
'“I’ve heard a lot of people are going to be there,” said Bell who is expecting hundreds of supporters. “The Wayne State colors will be flying big. It’s only about a two-minute or three-minute drive.”'
Five players to watch [6:29 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports:
'Sean Allen – The undrafted rookie has been running as the second string center for most of the offseason. He needs to show he can be consistent in standing his ground in pass protection against the bigger defensive tackles, while also displaying the athleticism to pull and get out on screens.'
5 Things to Watch During Bills-Lions [6:28 AM]
WGR-AM reports:
'There's a growing number of people both in the media and in the fan base that believe that Brohm's play on Thursday won't only determine his spot on the depth chart, but his spot on the final roster entirely as well.'
Inside slant [6:27 AM]
The Sports Xchange reports:
'Gailey promised a competition for the starting QB job between Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick, last year's starters, and young pro Brian Brohm, but it never transpired due to Edwards' progress. Edwards started the team's first three preseason games and didn't disappoint, completing 65 percent of his throws for 304 yards, two touchdowns, one interception and a 97.1 rating. That would be a good game. In his first three pro seasons (14-17 career mark), Edwards has yet to throw for 300 yards.'
Strategy and personnel [6:26 AM]
The Sports Xchange reports:
'Meanwhile, second-year NT Lonnie Harvey was also cut. He joined the team's practice squad last November after spending time with Carolina and was third on the depth chart behind Torell Troup, the club's second-round pick who has enjoyed a stellar camp and will man the middle of Buffalo's new 3-4 defense in a rotation with Kyle Williams.'
Notes, quotes [6:25 AM]
The Sports Xchange reports:
'WR Roscoe Parrish has found new life under coach Chan Gailey. One of the NFL's all-time leading punt returns, Parrish was an afterthought as a wide receiver under previous coaches Mike Mularkey and Dick Jauron. He was even benched by Jauron last year after muffing a punt that cost Buffalo a game against Cleveland. Despite his rare speed and good hands, Parrish wound up with just three catches for 34 yards. This summer, Parrish has shined working out of the slot and has seven catches for 82 yards and a TD. "In this profession, you never get down on yourself," Parrish said. "Last year was tough and I had to handle myself like a professional and have a good attitude. You never know what tomorrow will bring." It brought Gailey, one of the NFL's most successful offensive coordinators who knows what speed can do."'
Bills' backfield depth grabs spotlight [2:49 AM]
Buffalo News reports:
'"They've done a good job," Gailey said of Bell and Simpson. "They're both very unique runners. They have different styles, but they've both done a great job. That's one of those where we've got to take a hard look at when we get to Saturday [and make the roster decisions]."'
Stafford to make cameo [2:48 AM]
Buffalo News reports:
'Stafford, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft, started 10 games as a rookie last season. The Lions went 2-8 in his starts, and he completed 53 percent of his passes for 13 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.'
Ex-Wayne State star Joique Bell living NFL dream with Bills [2:47 AM]
Detroit News reports:
'"My mindset has always been to go out there and make an impact no matter when my name is called," he said. "They know I'm a good running back, but what else can I bring to the table."'

No chances for Lions, Bills in last preseason game [6:04 PM]
AP reports:
'Bills quarterback Trent Edwards is in a similar situation, although Buffalo coach Chan Gailey said he might give his starters as much as a quarter of playing time.'
Buffalo (2-1) at Detroit (2-1) [7:05 AM]
The Sports Network reports:
'Edwards, who has started each of the Bills' preseason games thus far, comes off a strong outing in a 35-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, in which he connected on 13-of-17 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown. The Stanford product has looked sharper during the preseason than QB competitors Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm, and barring a meltdown in what is likely to be a short stint on Thursday night, Edwards will be in the lineup when the Bills host the Miami Dolphins in Week 1.'
Bills-Lions preview [7:04 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports:
'“You always try to finish the preseason in rhythm and moving the ball and converting on third down and not making stupid mistakes, and I feel like we’ve been doing that for the most part,” said Trent Edwards. “But the preseason is kind of a no win situation because it doesn’t really count. It’ll help hopefully come week one during the season.”'
Bills' Troup passes endurance test [3:00 AM]
Buffalo News reports:
'"I think Troup has really worked hard since the time he first got here. He's grasping what we want out of him in this defensive scheme," Bills defensive line coach Giff Smith said.'
Jackson eyes opener for return [2:59 AM]
Buffalo News reports:
' "I still can't hold the ball in my left hand like I want to with this brace that I have on," he said.'

Bills' crowded backfield a good thing [9:11 PM]
Toronto Sun reports:
'"We don't know how that's going to shake out yet. We've got the luxury of three pretty good backs," head coach Chan Gailey told the Buffalo News. "They may all be in there at the same time, you never know."'
Speed of Parrish, Spiller thrills [8:32 PM]
Wellsville Daily Reporter reports:
'“He’s a guy that’s a playmaker in our offense,” said Edwards. “We’re going to put him in the slot and match him up with their inside or outside linebacker or their best nickel DB, and I’ve got to do a good job of getting on the same page with him. That’s one of the little things I need to do.”'
Bills' George Wilson passionate about community service [3:48 PM]
USA Today reports:
'"Some people think football is all about the money," says the 17-year-old senior at McKinley High. "But some people, like George, play because they love the game. And some people, like George, come back to the community and inspire."'
Bills’ RB Lynch cleared for preseason finale [2:22 PM]
AP reports:
'Coach Chan Gailey said Lynch looked good in practice Tuesday. Lynch missed the past two preseason games since being hurt in a loss to Washington.'
Jackson's hand progressing well [12:39 PM]
BuffaloBills.com reports:
'“I feel there’s a 100 percent chance I could play, but it’s going to come down to how much they want to get me out there and if they want to use me,” he said. “I still don’t know what the deal is, but I think we’ll find out more next week.”'
