Marker Goodwin set to compete at Pan Am Games [1:54 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'The former University of Texas football and track and field standout will compete against seventeen other long jumpers, with preliminary flights between 10:00am - 12:00pm at CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Athletics Stadium located at York University. The long jump finals will be held Wednesday evening at the same venue.'

Marker What will be the biggest changes at the tight end position? [1:53 AM] reports: '“I like to use what is available,” said Roman. “Various places I’ve been I’ve had some very good tight end groups. They were good and we used them. That’s the thing here. There’s a huge opportunity here for those guys. Whoever steps forward to grab that brass ring—if you’re a good tight end you can block defensive ends and outside backers and beat safeties in coverage, then there’s a lot of different things you can do with that player. The best players are going to play.”'

Marker Remembering A Legend. Van Miller [1:58 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'But, the thing is, he made it so simple and easy to just sit and talk - and laugh - with him. I got a chance to see him a few more times in the press box after that over the past few years, and even though his health was deteriorating, you would never know it by his spirit and enthusiasm. Van cared about you having a good time and took pride in making you smile when he spoke. And how could anyone not do that? His love of life and football was infectious, even at 87.'

Marker Marv Levy and Bill Polian remember Van Miller [1:57 AM]
WKBW-TV reports: '"That's what I remember most was his friendship, positive attitude. No matter how well or poorly we played, we'd get on the plane after a road game and he'd have a one liner or a joke for everybody and a pat on the back."'

Marker What step will Sammy Watkins take in 2015? [1:56 AM] reports: 'Another area that Watkins can improve is in his route running abilities. Watkins has been a diligent worker when it's come to route running since his days as a Clemson Tiger, but his exposure to the NFL game has demanded a lot more. Bills wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal thinks that he can become an elite wide receiver and that he wouldn’t “put any limits on him.”'

Marker Bills' Brooks up against the clock [1:59 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '“To be honest with you, this is the final year of my contract,” he said. “So I’m going up with everything I’ve got. I’m going to try to solidify myself in Buffalo – for at least a little while longer. If not Buffalo, somewhere else. And just try to go out and showcase myself. Show what I can do.”'

Marker Van Miller, longtime voice of the Bills, dies at age 87 [1:58 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '“There are a handful of broadcasters who are so distinctive when you hear their voice you immediately think of their teams,” said Steve Sabol, the president of NFL Films who died in 2012. “Van is associated with the Bills the way Ray Scott was with the Packers and Chuck Thompson was with the Colts. I could be blindfolded and hear that voice and in my mind I’m in Buffalo and it is Jim Kelly or Bruce Smith. Like all the great radio broadcasters, his delivery and the timbre of his voice approximates the rhythms and the shifts of the game. He has a certain energy to his voice that added to the pictures.”'

Marker 'There was only one Van Miller': a critic’s appreciation [1:57 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Diagnosed with the eye disease macular degeneration, Miller couldn’t drive anymore. He needed a walker to get around his neighborhood at times. He had recently fallen a few times while adjusting to the walker, landing in the hospital for a few weeks earlier in the year.'

Marker Medical team puts Darryl in good hands [1:56 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'My husband, Darryl Talley, was very fortunate to have been included in this effort and was evaluated by The Massachusetts General Hospital Brain and Body Clinic for the NFLPA Trust. While we were thrilled that our concerns for Darryl’s health were going to become a priority, we were anxious about what any potential diagnoses could hold for Darryl’s future.'

Marker Dunkirk native Van Miller dies [1:54 AM]

Marker Thanks Van [1:51 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'Whether it was learning about the business or asking him to share his amazing stories about Buffalo sports, Van would always have time for me. But that's who Van was, he would have time for everyone. I called him broadcasting royalty but there were no airs about him.'

Marker Who are the training camp sleepers? [1:50 AM] reports: 'Michael Buchanan: Signed in early June after he was released by New England, Buchanan has the body type to play with his hand on the ground in a 3-4 scheme. His long, angular 6-6 frame is similar to Manny Lawson. Buchanan is more comfortable up on the line than off the ball, but if he flashes enough he could push for the last job on the defensive line./

Marker Van Miller's obituary [1:49 AM] reports: '“We will all dearly miss ‘Uncle Van,’ but his legacy will remain deeply embedded in our franchise's history and in the hearts of his countless fans in Western New York and throughout the NFL community. Our deepest sympathies, along with our thoughts and prayers, go out to his wife Gloria and all of Van's family during this difficult time."'

Marker In remembrance: Van Miller through the eyes of John Murphy [1:48 AM] reports: 'I worked alongside Van Miller on the Bills’ broadcasts and learned virtually everything I know about broadcasting from him. And there was never a lesson plan. I learned by observing--by watching his total immersion in the moment, the way he would react to the game and to the crowd reacting to the game. He let himself get carried away by the emotions of the day and in that way, connected with his audience of Bills fans. He was the master of genuine, unforced enthusiasm and he knew how to convey that energy and enthusiasm to radio listeners in their homes, cars, and the seats in the stadium.'

Marker Thrill-seeking Bills coach takes the plunge at air show [1:59 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '“I can’t wait to play and compete,” Ryan said. “That’s kind of the feeling you get when you get out there — I’m competing. That’s a great feeling. But then the physical part of it, I can’t believe how physically drained I feel right now because I did nothing. Physically, it’s like ‘wow.’”'

Marker Ryan knows how to land on his feet — or backside [1:58 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'He said he felt more nervous before big games than over the prospect of jumping into the wild blue yonder. Told that he'd be free falling for 60 seconds before his partner activated the chute, Ryan shrugged and said, "Pretty much my normal morning."'

Marker Ex-Jets coach Rex Ryan jumps out of an airplane with the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team [1:57 AM]

Marker Bills Positional Briefs: Wide Receiver [1:52 AM]
WKBW-TV reports: 'Marcus Thigpen - Likely on the outside looking in due to the additions to the roster, Thigpen's best hope is to outduel any and all challengers for the main punt and kickoff return duties. It's a tough ask, mainly because of all the players that not only have experience doing it, but that are also quite effective at it as well. He's going to have to 'wow' the coaching staff and front office to stick, but he does have ability in the return game, so you can't totally rule him out just yet.'

Marker Can the offensive line rebound in 2015? [1:51 AM] reports: '“I think we’re just taking it day by day,” said Incognito. “With a new system and a new scheme it takes a while to jell.
