Marker No shocker: no Shockey [5:15 AM]
New York Daily News reports: 'Shockey didn't even attend practice, staying inside to get treatment on his left knee, which he reinjured in his ill-advised pregame warmup Monday night. Giants coach Jim Fassel said Shockey has "a chance to play - we'll just have to take it day by day." He said it's possible he could rule Shockey out if he's not able to practice today.'

Marker No green light for Shockey [5:14 AM]
New York Post reports: 'Fassel chalked up Shockey's bonehead move to the 23-year-old's personality. "I told him [on Monday], 'Just don't do much,' " Fassel said. "'Just relax and go out and stretch out a little bit and jog around a little bit.'"'

Marker Herm stands by Fassel [5:13 AM]
New York Post reports: '"When you're going through some bad times, they get you," Edwards said. "That's the way it is. People are going to take shots at you for everything you did bad, and they forget about all the good things you did. They do it to everyone. They're going to do it to me, they've done it to all of them."'

Marker Low Numbers Bench High Pick Joseph [5:12 AM]
New York Newsday reports: 'The most startling entry, though, is not a zero. It is the one for Monday's game against the Buccaneers: INA. That's short for inactive. That was not what the Giants had in mind when they used the 25th overall pick on Joseph, a defensive tackle who was to give them depth in the front four and be groomed to replace Keith Hamilton.'

Marker Herm Knows Fassel's Fix [5:11 AM]
New York Newsday reports: '"You can't take what people say personally," Edwards said, "because if you do, it will eat at you ... You can't let people back you into a corner and start getting out of character, and I don't think Jim will do that. He is a good football coach, and he will coach again. Whether it is with the Giants or whoever it may be, he will coach again."'

Marker Shockey aches to give fans cause to cheer [5:10 AM]
Newark Star Ledger reports: '"I'd be upset, too, if my team wasn't winning and wasn't performing and I had to pay all that money for seats -- not (including) food or parking. They got something to make noise about."'

Marker Jets' Edwards feels for Fassel [5:09 AM]
Asbury Park Press/Home News Tribune reports: '"Everyone wants to be a champion, every city wants to have a champion," said Edwards, whose 4-7 team plays host to 9-2 Tennessee in a Monday night game at Giants Stadium. "People get upset, but as a ball coach you know that and that's why for a football coach we are a weird lot."'

Marker Shockey, Petitgout miss practice Friday [5:08 AM]
AP reports: '``Both of them weren't going to be able to do much today, so I left them inside to get treatment and stay off their feet,'' Fassel said. ``Both of them probably still have a chance to play, but we're going to have to take it day-by-day.'''

Marker Injury relegates Moulds to secondary role [5:29 PM]
AP reports: '"I want to do everything I can to get out there and play," Moulds said as the Bills (4-7) prepare to face the New York Giants (4-7) at the Meadowlands on Sunday. "Even if it's to get out there and dictate coverage a little bit because (opponents) don't know that I'm fully hurt, so I can help other guys get open."'

Marker Simonton added to roster [5:28 PM]
AP reports: 'In two games, Simonton has gained four yards on two carries this season. He replaces receiver Sam Aiken on the roster, who was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday with a knee injury.'

Marker Bills Add Simonton To 53-Man Roster [4:30 PM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'Simonton, who appeared in two games earlier in the season, fills the roster vacancy that was created when wide receiver Sam Aiken was placed on Injured Reserve earlier this week.'

Marker Bills Scouting Report [3:25 PM]
NewYorkGiants.com reports: 'Despite these deficiencies, the Bills play hard on both offense and defense. The last three losses - to the Cowboys, Texans and Colts - were by a total of nine points.'

Marker Bills are Thankful [3:24 PM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'Terrence McGee: Being able to play in the NFL.'

Marker Bledsoe ready to play despite feeling `fuzzy' [3:23 PM]
AP reports: 'Bledsoe was in an upbeat mood Friday, joking that the fuzziness allow him to play better than he has during a nine-game slump in which he's thrown eight interceptions and three touchdowns. ``Maybe I'm off just enough to make some better decisions,'' Bledsoe said, smiling.'

Marker Ask Brian Moorman [3:22 PM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: The third-year punter has been outstanding for the Bills in 2003. His 45.5-yard average ranks third in the NFL and his 37.5 net ranks fifth. In weeks 12 and 13, he had a total of eight punts downed inside-the-20 (four per game). The club single-game record is five in-the-20 and no Bills player has ever had four in consecutive games. In addition, three of his six punts vs. Indy were downed inside-the-10, including one at the 1-yard line.

Marker Desire to excel persists in Bills' Fletcher [8:55 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"It's my nature," Fletcher said. "Rarely do I wake up in a bad mood. I live by the philosophy that tomorrow will be a brighter day. We're having tough times right now, but I know the good times are ahead of us. Hopefully, it will start this Sunday."'

Marker Woozy Bledsoe misses practice [8:54 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"Yesterday, I was feeling some symptoms from a head hit I took in the game so I figured it would be wise to go get it checked out," Bledsoe said. "I was feeling a little dizzy, a little nauseated, had a little vision problem, but it seems to be getting back to normal and I anticipate playing in the game."'

Marker Field goals are few, too [5:18 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'Kicker Rian Lindell, who generally has been very reliable in his first year with the team, has missed three 3-pointers the past two weeks, the difference in a two-point loss to Houston and a three-point loss to Indianapolis.'

Marker Injury Silences Shockey (for a Practice, at Least) [5:17 AM]
New York Times reports: 'Shockey, the Giants' voluble tight end, spent practice getting treatment on his injured left knee, a setback from last Monday when Shockey appeared ready to bolster the Giants' thinning corps of receivers against Tampa Bay. But his knee swelled badly after his pregame workout, and he was not ready to play. He hopes to return Sunday at home against Buffalo.'

Marker Losing Himself to Find Himself [5:16 AM]
New York Times reports: '"Once I got clean," he continued, "I remember thinking, `I got sober for this?' But somebody told me: `Take one problem at a time. You can't handle all your problems at once. Take one, knock it down. Another one, knock it down.' That's what I did. I never thought I'd get rid of 'em all. But one case got settled, then another got settled, then another, and it was over. I didn't have to worry about nobody stopping me."'

Marker Big plays Big Blue's big trouble [5:15 AM]
New York Daily News reports: 'The Giants have completed 28 passes for 20 yards or longer, as opposed to the 42 they have allowed. Only four of those gains have come in the last three weeks. To date, they've hit nine passes of 30 or more yards.'

Marker Shockey's return suffered setback [5:14 AM]
New York Post reports: 'Fassel said Shockey's status is now day-to-day for Sunday's game against the Bills, a far cry from the optimism of earlier in the week when Fassel sounded all-but assured that Shockey was ready to return.'

Marker Kerry's heavy load [5:13 AM]
New York Post reports: '"You know, I think once you lose that aggressiveness, then you really have problems," Collins said. "There's no question I made some bad choices, but at the same time I go into a game, I try to see it, throw it. Obviously there was a couple of times what I saw wasn't what I needed to see. It's kind of like at times, damned if you do, damned if you don't. You've got to stay aggressive and I'll continue to do that."'

Marker Shockey Hurt Again During Hard Practice [5:12 AM]
New York Newsday reports: 'Shockey said he wanted to play against the Bucs because he knew one more loss would essentially end the Giants' playoff hopes. But he said he still wants to play down the stretch. "We have really nothing to play for, but I love playing with these guys," he said.'

Marker Vanishing Dayne [5:11 AM]
New York Newsday reports: 'It has been a startling fall for the former Heisman Trophy winner, who is major college football's career rushing leader and was the 11th pick in the 2000 draft. He has not dressed for a game this season.'

Marker Fans can't make them blow their cool [5:10 AM]
Newark Star Ledger reports: 'The last time the Giants played at home, they were booed. Coach Jim Fassel had his name turned into a chant, "Fi-re Fas-sel!" They lost, overwhelmingly, to an Atlanta team riding a seven-game losing streak.'

Marker Giants want more from DT Joseph [5:09 AM]
Bergen Record reports: '"The last couple games with William, we just haven't had the production," Fassel said. "I know he's only getting a limited look, but sometimes that's all you can give them. If you have six plays or nine plays or 10 plays, you have to make the most of those. I expect the most because if you're only going to play 10 plays, you've got to be at the top of your game. You ought to be able to go in there fresh as a daisy and go in there and really do some damage."'

Marker Giants odds and ends [5:08 AM]
Bergen Record reports: 'Said RB Tiki Barber: "You play because it's your job and it's what you're paid to do. You play because you're always looking to gain a level of respect as a player - take pride in what you do for a living. Those things weigh more heavily on your mind than playing for nothing."'

Marker Giants accentuating the positives [5:07 AM]
White Plains Journal News reports: 'The Buffalo Bills, who come to Giants Stadium Sunday, have had a season that closely mirrors the Giants. Both teams have offenses that have failed to live up to expectations, particularly inside the 20-yard-line. But the Bills' red zone defense has been much better than the Giants', and that could be the deciding factor in this interconference affair.'

Marker Shockey further damages left knee [5:06 AM]
White Plains Journal News reports: '"If it was an injury where I didn't think I could do it, I wouldn't play. But I felt I could play. I felt it important for me to play because we'd have had a chance if we'd won it. Now, watching from the sidelines, and obviously losing it, it's really made it hard on ourselves.'''
