Marker There's something similar about these Chiefs, '95 team [5:10 AM]
Kansas City Star reports: 'Chiefs fans will remember 1995 as a season full of pleasant surprises. Of course, that's where they hope the similarities end, though don't be surprised if the Colts wind up here at Arrowhead again in January.'

Marker Chiefs notebook [5:09 AM]
Kansas City Star reports: 'The grass at Arrowhead is already sparse in areas and certainly won't be helped by Wednesday night's women's exhibition soccer match between the United States and Italy. But the field will look presentable Sunday night. The grounds crew, for the first time this year, gave the field a coat of green paint Wednesday.'

Marker Vermeil verbatim [5:08 AM]
Kansas City Star reports: 'On the Chiefs' struggles to convert short-yardage running plays: “It can be critical. We lost games last year based on third and 2. The other side of the line of scrimmage is defensing the same situation. They're getting paid to do the same things, to prevent you (from converting). Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose.”'

Marker Chiefs are what they are [5:07 AM]
Topeka Capital Journal reports: '"I'm pleased with where we are," he noted, "but I'm not blinded by it. We know our strengths and we know our weaknesses. We have to keep exploiting our strengths and either improve or disguise the areas we aren't as strong."'

Marker Vermeil says Chiefs not on par with ’99 Rams [5:06 AM]
St. Joseph News Press reports: '“As I’ve found after seven ball games, I think if we’re going to be successful, we’re going to have to be more like the New England Patriots (the 2001 Super Bowl champion) if we’re ever going to get it all done. A complete team organized in a way that we take advantage of the different things that different people do in all three phases of the game.”'

Marker Frustrated Hall feels ordinary [5:05 AM]
St. Joseph News Press reports: 'Hall hasn’t returned a punt or a kickoff for a score in the Chiefs’ last two games against Green Bay and Oakland. He nearly broke a punt for a score against Green Bay, but was tripped up by the punter. Against Oakland, he was held to 15 yards on two punt returns. “It’s been very frustrating,” Hall said after the Chiefs beat Oakland 17-10. “I got it a couple of times, actually, but what happens is we’re so concerned with where they’re going to kick it. Now, we’re to the point where we don’t know what they’re doing do. Are they going to kick it down the middle? Are they going to kick it right, left?'

Marker Vermeil getting questions as though Chiefs were 0-7 [10:53 PM]
AP reports: 'One reason for fans' worry is probably the nature of many of the wins the Chiefs have piled up. Most were extremely close, such as the 17-10 win over Oakland on Monday night that wasn't decided until the Raiders' Tim Brown was tackled 1 yard short of the end zone as time ran out.'

Marker Moulds Back on Practice Field [10:46 PM]
RNews.com reports: '"If he feels he can play but our training staff determines that it puts him in danger for the rest of the year, then they'll yank him out," added Bledsoe. "But if they leave it up to me or they leave it up to Eric, we're going to put him on the field."'

Marker Vermeil Press Conference [10:29 PM]
kcchiefs.com reports: '“Buffalo comes to town supporting a four win and three loss record – a team that was 8-8 last year, a team we beat 17-16 here in a very tough physical game. It was a game that was turned around by (CB) Eric Warfield picking one off that would have been a touchdown. I expect it to be the same type of football game. They’re a better football team and they’ve improved as much on defense in terms of points given up as we have. They tackle and move and fly around on defense as well as any team we play. They’re the number three team in the National Football League on defense from a statistical standpoint. They hadn’t been running the ball and were rated 32. They take a healthy running back and he runs for over 160 yards. That profile and their rank will change quickly. Players do make a difference."'

Marker Fasani Joins Bills Practice Squad [10:18 PM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'The Bills released quarterback Brandon Doman from the practice squad to make room for Fasani.'

Marker Bills face big test against undefeated Chiefs [10:13 PM]

Marker Bills Return to Early Season Form [11:56 AM]
BuffaloBills.com reports: 'The Bills will have to maintain their offensive success when they travel to Kansas City next week in a prime time showdown with the explosive Chiefs. With the Patriots defeating the Dolphins, the Bills are only one game out of first place, and if they continue to play the way they did against the Redskins, future opponents should have reason to worry.'

Marker Less get-up-and-go might help rookie returner [9:00 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Brown is averaging a respectable 21.1 yards on 17 kickoff returns, including a long run of 41 yards. What the Bills want to see is the explosive burst and decisiveness that made him so effective in the exhibition games.'

Marker Good fortune is great factor [7:59 AM]
Kansas City Star reports: 'It's definitely no accident. The Chiefs preach the importance of turnover differential, and Kansas City enters Sunday night's game against Buffalo leading the NFL with 20 takeaways. The Chiefs' nine giveaways result in a plus-11 margin. Buffalo is minus-2. “We're plus-11, Minnesota is plus-13,” Vermeil said. “The two of us are both undefeated. We're doing something right. But we're not doing everything perfect.”'

Marker Nix the nitpicking [7:58 AM]
Kansas City Star reports: 'Prediction: Chiefs 27, Bills 17. Dante Hall makes a big play.'

Marker Chiefs notebook [7:57 AM]
Kansas City Star reports: 'Buffalo ranks 25th in the NFL in offense but No. 3 on defense. Already this season, the Chiefs have faced the No. 2 (Pittsburgh), No. 4 (Denver) and No. 9 (Baltimore) defenses in the league.'

Marker Chiefs doing 'just enough' [7:56 AM]
Topeka Capital Journal reports: '"But we never should have let the game get that close anyway. We should have put these guys away in the third quarter when we had the chance. Give them credit. Those guys have a lot of pride, and they fought back." Added Warfield: "We had just enough to get it done."'

Marker Have Chiefs caught breaks or made them? [7:55 AM]
Springfield News Leader reports: 'Life should get a little easier this week with the Bills coming to town which means the Chiefs should be 8-0 heading into their bye week.'

Marker For now, the Bills silence the critics [1:08 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'If Buffalo is a playoff team, it has to win at either Kansas City or Dallas, then take three of the next four.'

Marker Bills' season turns topsy-turvy [8:56 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Buffalo might not be back on track for the season, but it's not sunk, either. The Bills ran the ball effectively against the Redskins, a first this season. They grabbed an early lead, the way they did against New England and Jacksonville. They dominated the line of scrimmage, unlike their games against Miami, Philadelphia and the Jets.'

Marker Levy to join 'Total Access' cast [8:55 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Hall of Fame Coach Marv Levy has been signed to be an analyst for the signature show on the NFL Network that will premiere on DIRECTV on Nov. 4.'
