Buffalo Bills News - October 24, 2016

Marker Buffalo loses more than game in 28-25 loss to Dolphins [12:34 AM]
Batavia Daily News reports: 'In the backfield, news might be even worse for the Bills. LeSean McCoy (8 carries, 11 yards) tried to play through a hamstring injury he sustained on Wednesday during practice. Following half, the Bills announced McCoy was pulled from the game for re-aggravating the injury.'

Marker Buffalo Bills Week 7 Report Card [12:33 AM]
Auburn Citizen reports: 'If you don't count Mike Gillislee's 20-yard run and Tyrod Taylor's 10-yard touchdown run, the Bills had 20 carries for 37 yards. That's a pathetic effort. There are no excuses for it. Yes, LeSean McCoy is hurt. But Gillislee has shown he can break off big runs. Yet, the Bills coaching staff didn't seem too interested getting him involved in the rushing attack. Gillislee finished with five carries. (McCoy had eight.) '

Marker Jay Ajayi runs for 200-plus yards again as Dolphins bop Bills [12:32 AM]
Toronto Sun reports: 'Usually a Ryan-coached defence makes adjustments to at least diminish any offensive element causing problems, but Ajayi only ran stronger as the game progressed, until suffering a leg-muscle cramp with four minutes remaining. Did Ryan and his coaches change things up enough?'

Marker Landry: I wish I could take back hit that hospitalized Bills’ Williams [12:31 AM]
Miami Herald reports: 'Landry, speaking after the game, was visibly upset about hurting a fellow player. “If I could take that hit back, I would,” Landry said. “The guy has a family to feed and this is his livelihood. You never want to see that with anybody.”'

Marker Richie Incognito launches Andre Branch’s helmet late in Dolphins win [12:30 AM]
Miami Herald reports: '“Reggie [Bush] got in [the end zone], the ball came squirting loose so I went to jump on it and then the next thing you know I’m at the bottom of a pile and everyone was going at it, so I don’t know,” Incognito explained. “I was at the bottom.”'

Marker Ajayi rushes for 214 yards to help Miami beat Bills 28-25 [12:29 AM]
AP reports: 'The Dolphins (3-4) used an extra lineman much of the time to clear big holes for Ajayi, who tied the NFL record for consecutive 200-yard games held by O.J. Simpson, Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams.'

Marker Dirty hit? Block by Landry injures Bills' Williams [12:28 AM]
AP reports: '"I apologized," Landry said. "I just told him to get better. You never want to see that happen to anybody. ... If I could take that hit back, I would. It's a guy's livelihood."'

Marker Ajayi's epic performance pushes Dolphins past Bills [12:27 AM]
The Sports Xchange reports: 'The Bills were led by quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who threw a touchdown pass and also ran for a score. But Bills running back LeSean McCoy re-injured his hamstring and was held to 11 yards on eight carries.'

Marker Bills left questioning toughness after loss [12:26 AM]
The Sports Xchange reports: '"They out-toughed us," Bills starting right tackle Jordan Mills said. "I wouldn't say it was a surprise, but we didn't expect it."'

Marker Aaron Williams leaves with head/neck injury; LeSean McCoy re-injures hamstring [12:25 AM]
ESPN reports: 'Landry launched into Williams while blocking for Jay Ajayi on a 6-yard run in the second quarter. The Dolphins' top receiver was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play, but the Bills declined that penalty and instead accepted a holding call against Miami on the same play.'

Marker Final: Bills stumble, lose to Dolphins 28-25 [12:24 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'That defense would get gashed again by the dolphins running attack and would take the lead on a terrific Damien Williams 12-yard touchdown run that gave the Dolphins their first lead since 3-0 early in the first quarter. The Bills would get yet another shot on offense, but would fail once again to put anything together and go three-and-out again.'

Marker Bills-Dolphins: Arrow Up/Arrow Down [12:23 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'The source of pride for Rex Ryan and his coaching staff took a direct hit. Miami manhandled them at all levels. Jay Ajayi ran for 214 yards. As a team, the Dolphins piled up 256 on the ground and 454 overall. They ran for 6.1 yards per carry. The numbers weren't deceiving. The play was as bad as the stats indicate.'

Marker Bills struggle in 28-25 loss to Miami [12:22 AM]
WKBW-TV reports: 'The Dolphins' Jay Ajayi ran for 214 yards, becoming the second play in NFL history to have back-to-back games with 200 yards rushing or more.'

Marker 7 observations from Bills - Dolphins (10/23/16) [12:21 AM]
WKBW-TV reports: 'The Bills not only activated him, but they decided to ride him all through the first half and early on in the third quarter. The Bills weren’t treating him as a man that just suffered a hamstring injury, they were operating — almost stubbornly at times — as if McCoy was his normal self and nothing had happened earlier in the week.'

Marker Mounting injuries, porous defense sack Bills win-streak [12:20 AM]
WROC-TV reports: 'So, now the complexion of the Bills season has changed a bit. This game was another measuring stick. Had they been able to get out of South Beach with a victory, they would have been sitting pretty. It very well may take 10 wins to secure a wildcard. Sunday’s loss drops them to 1-3 in conference games, which comes into play when invoking tiebreakers.'

Marker Miami Runs All Over Buffalo 28-25 [12:19 AM]
Bills Daily reports: 'I guess they read their press clippings during the week. They were due for a typical Bills clunker and got it in this game. They were dominated throughout on both sides of the line of scrimmage as Miami's OL and DL controlled the football game. It is shocking to think the Bills actually had an 11 point lead in the second half of this game. Everyone has been waiting for Taylor to have a big fourth quarter game winning drive, he had that chance and went three and out. Truly depressing effort and depressing loss against a team that is very beatable.'

Marker Both Sides Of Line Dominated In Loss [12:18 AM]
Bills Daily reports: 'Grade F: Tough division loss will hurt their playoff chances.'

Marker Bills fall late to Dolphins to end win streak [12:17 AM] reports: 'The Bills saw an 11-point lead in the third quarter disappear as they had no answer for Miami’s new rushing star Jay Ajayi, who rumbled for over 200 yards for the second straight week, and led the Dolphins to a comeback win over Buffalo 28-25.'

Marker McCoy hopeful for next Sunday after leaving game early at Miami [12:16 AM] reports: '“I felt fine. Every day step by step I slowly progressed and things calmed down. It was a day to day decision,” McCoy explained of the process leading up to Sunday. “I felt great going into my cuts, warming up, running, cutting, I felt good. That was the only reason I would play if I was 100 percent.”'

Marker What they're saying: Bills-Dolphins postgame comments [12:15 AM] reports: '“Obviously we got out-played, we got out-coached, we got out-everything-ed. They were a more physical team today, there’s no doubt about that. They controlled the game and that’s why they won the game.”'

Marker Bills looking to stay hot in Miami [10:07 AM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'And Brown assessed it’s because “just know them. We play them twice a year. We know the tendencies they like to do. We know they’ve got a new head coach (Adam Gase) but it’s still the same plays out there. We’ve got to go out there and be tough with those guys cause they’re a physically tough team.”'

Marker Lawson excited to finally make game debut [10:06 AM]
Olean Times Herald reports: '“YOU’VE GOT those guys, Jerry being here for a long time, and Zo just got here,” he said. “But them two guys are unstoppable. Learning from them will help me be a better player in the long run. Us three together on the field, me with those guys, it might be special.'

Marker Pregame primer: Everything you need to know for Bills-Dolphins, plus five things to watch [8:46 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Is Marquise Goodwin ready to be a No. 1? The Bills are likely to be without Robert Woods because of a foot injury, which will elevate Goodwin into the No. 1 job. Given Goodwin's injury history and prior performance, that never could have been imagined before the season.'

Marker Bills Today: Lawson could make pass rush a three-headed monster [8:44 AM] reports: '“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Hughes. “We used to watch Shaq [Lawson] in college. The way he turns that corner, closing speed on the quarterback, non-stop, living motor, and chasing whoever has the ball – that’s what we like. We want to go out there and want guys hunting whoever has the football.”'

Marker The continuing decline of Mario Williams [12:17 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'So, yes, when the Bills and Dolphins meet at 1 p.m. Sunday inside Hard Rock Stadium, both Ryan and Williams will have plenty of motivation to prove they were right − even if neither one of them would admit as much.'

Marker Kiko Alonso hopes he's found a home in Miami [12:16 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"He’s always been a guy that can run and hit," Ryan said. "Very instinctive player."'

Marker Bills look to avoid one of those haunting defeats [12:15 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'Who can forget the loss in Oakland two years ago, just one week after a glorious home win over the Packers? How about last year's loss to the Jaguars in London? Or if you want to go back a dozen years in the playoff drought, you could point to the last-second loss to those Jags on opening day in 2004, after Nate "Playmaker" Clements didn't bat down the pass on fourth down.'

Marker Undermanned Bills face tough task against Dolphins [12:14 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'Well, it’s not a must-win, but it sure would be a nice one to get. To be a playoff team, you have to win the games you’re supposed to win, and 2-4 Miami falls into that category for a Buffalo team that has won four straight. Beyond that, with a demanding three-game portion of their schedule on the horizon — home to New England, then at Seattle and at Cincinnati with a bye week mixed in — this is a game the Bills really need to put in the left-hand column, if for no other reason than to give themselves some wiggle room if they fall flat in that three-game gantlet.'

Marker Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins: Preview, predictions [12:13 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'Bills 23, Dolphins 16.'
