Marker On The Brink [6:26 AM]
Fox Sports reports: 'The Buffalo Bills rushed for 188 yards in their exhibition opener against Seattle. Not too bad an effort. But subtract quarterback Rob Johnson's 53 yards, remember that starter Antowain Smith is hobbled by sore groin and add in the fumbles of backup Jonathan Linton and suddenly, the Buffalo ground game is a lot scarier on paper than it is on the field.'

Marker Injuries Open Door For Bills' Linton [6:23 AM]
D & C reports: 'Linton fumbled three times, twice deep in his own territory on Buffalo' first two series. In the second quarter, he was stuffed on a third-and-goal-at-the-one plunge. On fourth down, he fumbled again, making a meaningless recovery. "I have no excuses for that," said Linton, who found himself the center of intense media attention yesterday after practice. "I'm not saying the ball was slick or my arms were wet or somebody knocked it out. That should never happen. I'm a running back. I know they're going to go after the ball. Nothing really happened, it was just a lack of focus and concentration."'

Marker Rick Gosselin's Pro Football Report: AFC Notes [1:51 PM]
Dallas Morning News reports: 'Look for the Buffalo Bills to leave their long-time training camp home in Fredonia, N.Y., for Rochester in 2000. Wegman's, a major supermarket chain in western New York, became the corporate sponsor of the Bills' training camp this summer, the final year of the Fredonia lease. Wegman's is based in Rochester.'

Marker Notebook: Huard Solid In His Debut [1:50 PM]
Tacoma News Tribune reports: 'Early in the second period, after Bills' running back Jonathan Linton was stopped at the goal line, officials reviewed the play and ruled that he had not broken the plane of the goal line, which supported the ruling on the field. The interesting part is that Bills' coach Wade Phillips never intended to ask for a replay ruling. "I was going to call a timeout anyway, and the official asked if I wanted to challenge the call," Phillips said, taking a "why-not" approach.'

Marker It's NOW Time For Hawks To Be Real Patient - Or Get Better Fast [1:49 PM]
Tacoma News Tribune reports: 'The Seahawks' defense made a number of big plays, forcing four fumbles and registering three sacks. And a second-quarter goal-line stand of four stops at the 1 was stunning. But the defense also gave up 188 rushing yards and let the Bills convert 60 percent of their third-down tries.'

Marker '99 Starts Like 1998 [1:48 PM]

The system is shown on a horizontal screen (16X9) and gives a panoramic view. It offers five times more resolution than current TV signals, and it has twice the sharpness and CD-quality sound.'

Marker Seattle Vs. Buffalo / Exhibition Game [2:06 PM]
Seattle Times reports: 'The Bills, not looking to restart the debate of who will play quarterback, elected Doug Flutie as their leader. However, if backup Rob Johnson can string together a couple of fine performances in exhibition games, dare we say the words "quarterback controversy."'

Marker Like Holmgren, Buffalo's Phillips Calls All The Shots [11:05 AM]
D & C reports: 'His official, if less publicized title with the Bills, also includes the moniker vice president of football operations. It gives Phillips complete say in who plays for him, aside from what general manager John Butler might want.'

Marker Bills Intensify Camp Search [11:04 AM]
D & C reports: 'The Bills want to move their summer home to Rochester for marketing purposes. The Rochester area accounts for 25 percent of their ticket sales. A Rochester-based camp would also provide easier access to clients and fans in Syracuse and the Southern Tier.'

Marker Bills Take First Look At Replay Rule Saturday [11:02 AM]
D & C reports: 'With the exception of the last two minutes of each half when an official in the replay booth takes over, each head coach receives two chances per game to challenge calls. The referee watches replays off the television feed on a field-level monitor. If it's decided the correct call was made, the challenging team loses a timeout.'
