Buffalo Bills News - November 9, 2003

Marker Mastering the mind game [9:09 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"I don't know," he said. "One day my body feels good and one day my body feels bad."'

Marker Felder's laid-back approach belies his passion for making music [9:08 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'It's a rare composer who will write a piece that requires an orchestra to be accompanied by footage of the Buffalo Bills.'

Marker Bills want 2nd-half turnover [5:25 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'When asked at the NFL owners meetings last week if his Bills are capable of making the playoffs, owner Ralph Wilson did not give a ringing vote of confidence. “I don’t know. They’ll have to show me,” Wilson said. “We’ve got a lot of good players and I want to see what they do in the second half.”'

Marker The biggest star in Dallas [5:24 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '“I’m not surprised at all,” says Buffalo fullback Sam Gash, who played for Parcells in New England and is hoping he and his teammates can get the best of his former coach when the Bills visit Texas Stadium this afternoon. “He’s done this every place he’s coached. It’s no coincidence. The only surprise might be that he has turned it around there as fast as he has.”'

Marker Bills' postseason chances don't look good [5:23 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'I give them a 25-75 chance for the AFC’s second wild-card berth.'

Marker Q&A: Sam Gash [5:22 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: 'What was your reaction when you heard you were coming back to the Bills after a three-year hiatus?
“It threw me completely off. It was one of those things where everything fell into place. We basically moved here as soon as they signed me. This is home now, and it really couldn’t get any better. I mean, this is my favorite place to play. I’ve played in Baltimore and New England but this, with the fan following the team has, blows away every other place.”'

Marker Bills verse Cowboys no forgone conclusion [5:21 AM]
Olean Times Herald reports: 'The reality is, Buffalo probably needs to go 6-2 down the stretch to make the playoffs ... because 9-7 probably won’t get it done. And a division title is a particular longshot because, after Monday night’s dramatic win at Denver, the Patriots are 7-2 and despite losing to the Bills in the opener, have a 2 1/2 -game lead over Buffalo.'

Marker Williams, others carrying a big stick [5:20 AM]
Dallas Morning News reports: '"I feel that we are a somewhat intimidating secondary," Williams said. "I think some of the wide receivers are all talk until they see our cornerbacks are very, very good, and me and [Darren] Woodson are going to lay a punishing blow."'

Marker Something's got to give in this one [5:19 AM]
Dallas Morning News reports: '"Buffalo is certainly a team that could give us a lot of trouble. ... I think we'll have to be at our best," Parcells said. "I think if we do what we did last week early in the game, we don't have any chance."'

Marker Zimmer like Bill, but not that one [5:18 AM]
Dallas Morning News reports: 'The Cowboys owe their surprising success – leading the NFC East at 6-2 entering Sunday's game against Buffalo at Texas Stadium – to Zimmer's metamorphosis. Zimmer has become Belichick.'

Marker Coach Deion clueless [5:17 AM]
Dallas Morning News reports: 'Deion's declaration had the impact of a hummingbird dropping in Atlanta and with former Cowboys teammate Daryl Johnston. Atlanta columnist Steve Hummer reported, "It met with a resounding yawn. No one thought enough about it to ask for further comment."'

Marker Five things to watch [5:16 AM]
Dallas Morning News reports: 'Drew Bledsoe has lost four fumbles. He has thrown eight interceptions. So maybe it should come as no surprise that Buffalo is among the league's worst at protecting the football. Buffalo has turned the ball over 19 times; only Arizona has more. Dallas hasn't forced a turnover in two games. This is a good week to end that streak.'

Marker Breaking down the matchups [5:15 AM]
Dallas Morning News reports: 'A loss drops Buffalo under .500. The Cowboys play New England, Carolina and Miami in their next three games. A loss Sunday and Dallas could play well and still lose four in a row. Dallas smells its first playoff berth since 1999, a powerful motivator. Buffalo's Gregg Williams has spent a lot of time talking about his job security the last two weeks.'

Marker The Bottom Line [5:14 AM]
Dallas Morning News reports: 'They have lost three consecutive road games, and running back Travis Henry is complaining about not getting the ball near the goal line. A win would soothe a lot of what ails Buffalo. The Bills are a terrible road team (1-3), which means this is another game a playoff-caliber team wins at home. Coach Bill Parcells thinks the Cowboys' performance this month will determine their playoff fate. A win over Buffalo won't do it, but it will come close. '

Marker Head-to-head: Travis Henry vs. Dat Nguyen [5:13 AM]
Dallas Morning News reports: 'The Cowboys' team speed on defense should nullify Henry if the Bills spend too much time running outside.'

Marker At halftime, it's Quincy full time [5:12 AM]
Fort Worth Star Telegram reports: 'The Cowboys head into today's game against the Buffalo Bills (4-4) in first place in the NFC East and tied with Minnesota, Seattle and Carolina for the best record in the NFC. More important, a season that began as a rebuilding campaign has morphed into one with playoff -- and possibly Super Bowl -- aspirations.'

Marker When it comes to analysis, it's me, myself and ... why? [5:11 AM]
Fort Worth Star Telegram reports: '"Roy Williams is a star waiting to happen."'

Marker The edge [5:10 AM]
Fort Worth Star Telegram reports: Intangibles - Adversity crops up in every game, for every team. A call doesn't go your way, you turn the ball over, whatever. And while the Cowboys have proved resilient in the face of such problems, the Bills have had a nasty little habit this season of folding at the first sign of something going wrong. EDGE: Cowboys.'

Marker Determination helps Cowboys to 6-2 start [5:09 AM]
Fort Worth Star Telegram reports: 'But the emphasis starts up front. And that is to contain Travis Henry. If we can do that, we give ourselves an opportunity to make them one dimensional and turn it into a passing game, which we feel we can be successful. If they can do both, run and pass, it's going to be a long day for us.'

Marker Nguyen making big plays for Parcells [5:08 AM]
San Antonio Express News reports: '"He's just one of those guys," Parcells said, "that after awhile, you just have to get them in the game because something is going to happen."'

Marker Cowboys-Bills Key Matchup [5:07 AM]
San Antonio Express News reports: 'Cowboys RB Troy Hambrick vs. Bills RB Travis Henry.'

Marker Cowboys-Bills Injury & Notebook Report [5:06 AM]
San Antonio Express News reports: 'Coach Bill Parcells enjoys teasing 235-pound safety Roy Williams by saying the former Oklahoma star is "one biscuit away" from being a linebacker. But last week, Parcells acknowledged that Williams' weight is one of the reasons why he's among the NFL's biggest hitters. "I've had some (defensive backs) who could hit before," Parcells said. "I had Victor Green when I was with the Jets and he could really lay you out. But Roy has a little more wood in his knapsack. He's a good tackler."'

Marker Cowboys hope familiarity breeds win over Bills [5:05 AM]
Houston Chronicle reports: '"I think Buffalo is certainly a team that could give us trouble," Parcells said. "They started the season well and have pretty good firepower on offense. Their defense is third in the league. These guys can do something. I think we'll have to be at our best. If we do against Buffalo what we did last week at the beginning of the game, there's no way we can win it."'

Marker Carter keys Cowboys' comeback [8:54 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"It's a dream come true for me," Carter said. "I'm blessed and I thank God for being in this position, but at the same time it's a lot of hard work. Every day there's something to be done, even in the offseason. There's charity work, reading to kids. There's high expectations for this position, and the guys I'm following. Morton, Staubach, Meredith, Aikman, it's a big time tradition here."'

Marker Ex-Buckeyes set to battle [8:53 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '"I think we stack up pretty well," Winfield said. "They're not big guys, so we don't have to worry about the jump balls. But they all have good speed and good experience."'

Marker Adelphia decides to take a pass on the NBA season package [8:52 AM]

Marker A smooth leap for Moorman [5:17 AM]
Rochester D&C reports: '“I don’t really know the ins and outs of what makes a kicker good, but I know Brian can kick it far and place it where he wants to,” said special teams captain Sammy Morris. “Every time he kicks it, I don’t call it kicking, he booms it.”'
