Marker More mind-blowing moves [5:11 PM]
Shout! reports: The Bills waived Bruce Smith, Thurman Thomas and Ted Washington today. In an effort to get under the $62.2 million salary cap, the moves were necessary because the three would not agree to the pay cuts the Bills apparently needed them to accept.

Marker Sentimentality killed the Bills [11:10 AM]
Shout! reports: Bills fans' biggest hope has to be that the team has figured out how to avoid another salary-cap mess like this one. They may seem to be cold, callous, disloyal to their long-term veterans, but perhaps they were too sentimental in the past.

Nose tackle Ted Washington apparently was offered a pay cut, but declined, meaning he will likely be released too. Bruce Smith also refused to take more than a $1 million pay cut, as did Thurman Thomas. All of them could be gone when the free agency period begins on Friday.

Marker Report: Reed gone [4:04 PM]
Shout! reports: According to media reports, the Bills have released all-time leading receiver Andre Reed today. The transaction was expected, especially after Reed openly criticized the organization on his Internet web site days before the Wild Card playoff loss to Tennessee last month.
